LISD trustees to discuss 08- 09 personnel

LIVINGSTON — Members of the Livingston Independent School District Board of Trustees will consider additional personnel for career and technology classes, incentives for staff in high-need areas and a new form for supplemental duties, including coaching stipends. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at the Administration Building, 1412 South Houston. In previous meetings, board members have discussed the need for an additional part-time staff members to supervise students in work programs. Currently, the vocational programs that are in place are divided under several teachers based on the type of career fi eld.
Superintendent Dr. Darrell Myers suggested in those prior meetings that the board consider hiring a retired teacher to make monthly visits to the job site to ensure the student is receiving the full educational benefi ts of participating in the vocational program. Students who leave jobs that originally made them eligible for the vocational program will be required to fi nd new employment or change their class schedule to include other academic courses.
Following a closed, executive session, the board will also consider accepting resignations and hirings of professional personnel. The board also will hear the superintendent’s notifi cation of continued employment of auxiliary personnel. Other items to be considered include: • the 2008-09 school calendar. • approval of student overnight trips. • consideration of a proposal to replace the sign at the junior high school. • consideration of a proposal for student athletic insurance. • consideration of a proposal for painting and carpet at Timber Creek Elementary, the transportation and administration buildings. • consideration of a proposal to purchase a 3/4 ton truck.
