LISD shuffles students out of portables during storm

LIVINGSTON — Campus officials at Livingston Independent School District activated their severe weather plan at about noon Tuesday when the National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for the south Polk County area. At two campuses, the cafeteria is located away from the main building, so lunch periods were interrupted at Livingston Intermediate School and Timber Creek so students could be moved to concrete buildings, according to Gregg Faith, LISD Communications Director.

At the high school campus, students were moved from portable buildings into the main building, Faith added. Staff members at the communications department and students in the GED program were also evacuated for a short time Wednesday. After the heaviest storm cell passed over, campuses resumed normal schedules.

According to the National Weather Service predictions Wednesday afternoon, the threat of severe storms was expected to return Wednesday evening and a 40 to 50 percent chance of thunderstorms continuing Thursday. No storm damage reports had been received as of
