Kidnapping suspect dead, victim stable
Polk County Enterprise - May 2008

LIVINGSTON — A Livingston woman is in stable condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston after being abducted at gunpoint from her parent’s home at 10:45 p.m. Capt. Rickie Childers of the Polk County Sheriff’s Department’s Investigation Division said the victim’s family notifi ed offi cers that George Raymond Alford, 51, of Shepherd, went into the residence, fi red two shots in the house and took the female victim — his girlfriend — from the house. After searching for the victim throughout the night, PCSO received a call that the kidnapper was at a location off Davis Road and Highway 146 south near a deer camp located on an oilfi eld road. Alford brutally attacked the victim at that location, but she was able to break away from him and ran through the woods.

When offi cers arrived at the scene near the deer camp, they located Alford’s vehicle and when they closed in to capture him, he turned the gun on himself. Alford was pronounced dead at the scene by Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace David Johnson at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Offi cers continued searching the area for the victim and passers-by spotted her when she emerged from the woods on FM 2665 near Highway 59. She was treated at the scene by EMS and airlifted to Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston where family members say she is in stable condition. The identity of the victim is being withheld by the Enterprise due to the pending investigation.
