OISD conducting its own probe of indecency charges
Polk County Enterprise - May 2008

ONALASKA — Onalaska school district offi cials released the following statement in regard to charges filed against Superintendent David Kennedy for failure to report in connection with three felony indecency charges fi led against OISD teacher Jimmy Lee Taylor. On Monday, May 19, the Onalaska ISD Board of Trustees consulted legal counsel regarding the criminal charge which has been brought by the Onalaska Police Department against Superintendent David Kennedy. Superintendent Kennedy has been charged with failure to report under Family Code 261.109, a provision which requires individuals to report suspected child abuse.

However, at the time of the board meeting on May 19, neither Mr. Kennedy nor the Board of Trustees had been provided with the sworn written complaint fi led by the Onalaska Police Department, so the alleged facts were unknown. The Board of Trustees takes this allegation very seriously and has authorized its attorney to further investigate the allegation, including requesting the cooperation and assistance of the Onalaska Police Department regarding its investigation and the factual allegations made in the sworn written complaint fi led by the Onalaska Police Department.

The Board wants to assure everyone that its fi rst priority has been and continues to be the safety and welfare of OISD students. Kennedy remains on duty and OISD offi cials said no change in his work status is expected.
