By Jo Ann Anderson Beken,
Class of 1971

Homecoming 2017 is upon us as we recognize this year as "little homecoming" in Groveton. The Indians will be playing West Sabine this Friday night, and we are confident in a victory! Homecoming queen candidates are Hannah Dial, PJ Porter, Peyton Ordaz, and Tiffany Newman, all seniors. The evening schedule includes the following: •2:30 Pep Rally •4:00-6:00 Beta Club Chicken Spaghetti Supper (The Beta Club will be hosting a Chicken Spaghetti Supper before the game. It is pick-up only, and you must purchase your tickets from a Beta Club Member beforehand. Tickets are $7 and include Chicken Spaghetti, Bread, Green Beans, and a Cookie, and will be picked up in front of the Commons Area. Please contact Mrs. Hannah or Mrs. Steubing if you need a ticket and cannot find a Beta Club Member) •6:45 Pre-Game Fireworks Sponsored by CW Services and County Seat Cafe •7:00 Football Game Halftime Crowning of Homecoming Queen, and Post Game Fireworks sponsored by CW Services and Groveton Family Medical. I attended the art show this past Saturday evening spotlighting the art work of Blake Bean which was held at the Groveton Senior Citizens Center. Blakes's inspiration for the paintings for this show were based upon the photography of Martha Harrison Mericle, GHS class of 1972. Martha supports our community in so many ways, but especially with her award-winning photography of all things Groveton. All of the photographs and paintings displayed at this show were Trinity County subjects, events, and scenery. Blake did not grow up in Groveton, but his mom (Janice Hartsfield, GHS Class of 1979) did. As you can imagine, she was beaming with pride as her son's work was honored and recognized. Blake and his family now live in Groveton and he is so grateful for the support shown to him, celebrating his awesome talent. It was a wonderful event showcasing Blake's talent and enabling the community to show our support of his amazing talent. We are looking forward to seeing more wonderful creations from Blake Bean Art.
