Lions Club holds annual Golf Tournament

The Groveton Lions Club held its Annual Golf Tournament on May 11 at Lake Estates Golf Club. The event has become our major fundraiser bene-fiting our Scholarship Fund. We have been able to grant 3 scholarships to Groveton seniors in the past and thanks to the participation of the Groveton community and the surrounding communi-ties, we will be able to do the same number of scholarships again this year. The members of Groveton Lions Club work hard all year at our various fund raisers and events to help our community and the Golf Tournament was no exception. There were 7 Lions helping and we want to thank Mrs. Johnson and the members of the Groveton Student Council for once again being there to help with anything that was needed. We raised over $1200 this year and were able to pay out $800 in prize money to the winning teams. There were 7 teams this year and they all seemed to have a good time doing something they loved and at the same time being able to a good deed for others. The First Place team consisted of Dee Queen, Owen Queen, Chris Force and L. D. Morgan and the split $500. The Fourth Place team was made up of Ralph Montemayor, Larry Small, Joe Don Kennedy and Johnny Montemayor, they split $200. Maxie's Tree Service sponsored this team. The Seventh Place win-ners were Troy Hodge, Pete Pruitt, Terry Cart-wright and Boswell McShagg (the invisible 4th player on this team). The 7th place prize was $100. Certificates were given to Chris Force for the longest drive and to Danny Holmes for being closest to the hole. Kenny Rucker, the Pro at Lake Estates, always does a great job of Terry Cartwright get the tournament together. We appreciate all that he does on our behalf. The hamburger lunch he made for us was wonderful and no one should have left hungry. Our Lions Club Sweet-heart was also attending and helping anywhere she was needed. She pre-sented the prizes to the winning teams.
