Youngsters enjoy Fishing Derby
On Saturday June 1, 2013 115 children bet-ween the ages of 1 and 16 took part in Texas Parks and Wildlife Annual Fishing Derby. Each child had a rod and reel complete with cork, weight, and a box of wiggly worms to use. The pond at the "Y" was circled with children and their parents for the contest to catch the biggest fish and win a bicycle. Fishing began at 8:00am and ended at 11:00am. While the Game Wardens tallied the results everyone was treated to hot dogs and soft drinks. The winner of the boys bike was Charlie Sanders. Winning the girls bike was Dana Whitworth. Placing in the age 1-5 was #1 Tanner Evans; #2 was Carson Knight; and #3 was Cooper Shanafelt. In the 6-12 age group was #1 Charlie Sanders, #2 Hannah Bergman; and #3 Kimberly Myer. In the 13-16 age group #1 was Klayton Kristoff. Tickets for door prizes were drawn and children could pick a prize from three tables loaded with toys to the delight of every age. Footballs and basket-balls were popular with the older children. Every child who stayed for the drawing won a prize. Private donations were received from: Trinity VFW, Magee's, B&B (hot dogs and drinks), and Texas Game Warden Association. Many private donations including but not limited to Trinity County Area Go Texan and Slick. Plans are underway for next year.
