City to receive $105,500 grant
Groveton News - March 2008 AUSTIN-(February 25, 2008)- The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved financial assistance to the City of Groveton (City) for a grant in the amount of $105,500 from the Economically Distressed Areas Program Research and Planning Fund for the preparation of a facility plan.
The City presently receives treated water through a contract with the Trinity River Authority (TRA). TRA's source of water for the City is from shallow wells that are linked hydraulically to Lake Livingston. The City's contract with TRA reserves a certain amount of water and also requires the City to accept a prorated share with other users should TRA be unable to provide the total amount. Since TRA's wells are influenced by lake levels in Lake Livingston, TRA cannot assure the City sufficient minimum supplies required by the Texas Com-mission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) during drought periods. Because the current supply is inadequate to meet supply standards, the City is seeking to obtain an additional water supply that could be used to augment what is provided through TRA. The City is interested in pursuing con-struction of a new well and various water distribution system improvements.
The City will utilize the grant proceeds to develop a Facility Engineering Plan (FEP). The FEP will provide an evaluation of their system to identify necessary project components, EDAP eligibility requirements and financial options, prior to project implementation.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the State Water Plan for the development of the state's water resources, and administering cost-effective financial programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control and agricultural water conservation projects.
