Presidential winner in county was Clinton

GROVETON – While New York Senator Hillary Clinton and Illinois Senator Barack Obama were running neck and neck statewide Tuesday night, Trinity County voters were solidly behind Clinton
Trinity County voters gave Clinton 2,528 votes 57.9%) compared to Obama’s 1,275.
Incomplete returns Tuesday night had Clinton with a narrow statewide lead of 1,111,000 votes (50%) to Obama’s 1,058,634 (48%) with 65 percent of the vote counted.
Obama, who had racked up 11 consecutive primary wins going into Tuesday’s election, did manage to pick up a win in Vermont’s primary..
Clinton, however, took wins in both Ohio and Rhode Island.
On the Republican side, Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) had already all but locked up his party’s nomination and his win in Texas Tuesday pushed him even over the top in the race for the GOP nomination.
Locally, McCain received 162 votes (50.2%) compared to his chief challenger former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s 137 (42.4%). Texas Congressman Ron Paul received 15 local votes (4.6%).
With 75 percent of the GOP voted counted statewide, McCain had 612,202 votes (52.0%) compared with Huckabee’s 436,734 (37%). Paul’s early statewide count was 59,468 (5%).
