Drive for David Fisher
Big Thicket Messenger - July 2008
David Fisher has had some heart problems since 2003 and has been on the Transplant List for over a year and carried a pager. On July 1st the pager went off while he was crossing the Trinity River Bridge. He knew he only had 2 hours to get to Methodist Hospital so he called Billy Tidwell to get him there. He spent 6 hours getting ready for Surgery and got his heart on Wednesday at 4:00 a.m. after a 4-hour operation. He spent 2 days in ICU.
He was doing so well that he was moved into a private room on July 4th, and was able to come home the 11th. The heart tested out very strong and his stay was only for 9 days instead of the usual 2 weeks.
He received a heart from a 28 year old. A room mate of his received both lungs from the same person. David’s wife Melody was there the whole time with prayers and support.
David states “he couldn’t have made it without her”. David states, “This is the most God-given thing a person can do to want to share your organs so some one else can live and he recommends others to think about donating theirs.” You can call him if you would like to ask questions at (936) 336-3357.
LifeShare Blood Center is having a drive at the Liberty Center City Hall on the 31st of July from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. There will be literature for donating organs, sponsored by the Hardin Lions Club, Bone marrow registrations from Gulf Coast Blood Center, as Liberty and Chambers County are rated as top in Cancer, and LifeShare Blood drive also. KSHN FM will be having the Party Line talk about this on the 29th of July at 8:30. We need everyone to sign up for the Marrow as I think it is 1 in 30,000 to match. We will have one from each of these organizations on the air. Annie Lee Jones, with the Bone Marrow, is also a recipient of Bone Marrow.
Judy Glover will represent the Cancer Society.
Please come and donate Blood and get information or sign up on the other Life Saving Programs.
