Big Thicket Messenger - July 2008
The House Interim Select Committee on Property Tax Relief and Appraisal Reform will hold a meeting in Beaumont at 1:00 p.m. at the John Gray Center Auditorium on the Lamar University campus. The hearing is the fifth of eight hearings being conducted around the state. The 13-member committee will take invited and public testimony on the state’s Property Value Study and recommendations on how to improve the state’s current property appraisal system.
“I look forward to hearing ideas from Texans across the state as the committee considers this very important issue”, said Chairman John Otto of Dayton. “Rising property taxes and appraisals are of concern to many of our state’s citizens, and we must find a way to improve the current system.”
The committee members include: Vice Chairman Ken Paxton (McKinney), representative Drew Darby (San Angelo), Representative Gary Elkins (Houston), Representative Jamael “King” Flores (Crosbyton), Representative Phil King (Weatherford), Representative Tracy King (Batesville), Representative Ruth Jones McClendon (San Antonio), representative Inocente “Chente” Quintanlla (Tomillo) and Representative Larry Taylor (Friendswood).
