Hurricane Dance
Big Thicket Messenger - June 2008

The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a “Hurricane Dance”, 8:00 p.m. to midnight, Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Liberty Elks Lodge on Highway 563.
The featured band for the dance is made up of five members, originating with Bruce Haire and his wife, Skip, of High Island. Bruce is lead vocalist and lead guitarist and Skip plays bass guitar. The couple had played for several years at different locations in the coastal area. At one of these functions, David Dearmore of Liberty, was in attendance. When the Haire’s drummer did not show up, Dearmore was asked to fill in. he had played the drums many years prior and had in fact sold his drum set ‘to buy my wife’s engagement ring’. He ended up playing the drums that night and found he enjoyed it immensely. A keyboard player was needed and Dearmore introduced Bryan Campbell, who is stranger to very few, to the group. Shelby Collins of Beaumont was then added as saxophone player and the present ‘Tropical Depression’ band was born.
The group also plays at private events and festivals, performing most recently at the Immaculate Conception Church Spring Festival. If you enjoy a variety of music made popular by Elvis, Jimmy Buffet and Jerry Jeff Walker, along with ‘Swamp Pop’ and Country, you must make plans to come to this dance. Tickets are $20.00 each and tables for six are available at $100.00. there will be a ‘best decorated table’ competition for those who wish to participate. The decorated tables and many other items will be included in a silent auction held during the event. Sponsors to date include Clayton Homes, Liberty, Wal-Mart SuperCenter, Thrif-Tee Foods, Dayton and Liberty, First Liberty National Bank, Dayton and Liberty, Sterling Funeral Home, Dayton, ad Allison Funeral Service, Liberty.
Tickets are available at the Vindicator, Accessories Etc., BJ Ford, Thrif-Tee Food Center, Dayton and Liberty, and the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. Please call (936) 336-5736 for more information or visit the chamber website: www.libertydaytonchamber.com.
