Big Thicket Messenger - September 2008
All of the area football teams took the field on Saturday, and the coaches reported some success and problems that need to be addressed.
Hardin Hornet head coach reported that their scrimmage against the Liberty Panthers was short with only 20 plays. He stated that the Hornets would meet the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks on Thursday, August 21, and Haynes hopes for at least a 40-play game to observe his players. Hardin will then play the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats on Friday, August 29.
The Hull-Daisetta Bobcats second year head coach, Joe Slack, also reported a good chance to look at his players. The Bobcats won their scrimmage against Warren by a score of 5-0.
Hull-Daisetta will face the Deweyville Pirates on Thursday, August 21 and then follow on the 29th with the Hardin Hornets.
Dayton Bronco Head Coach Jerry Stewart stated that he doesn’t like the 20-play scrimmage offered and each year faces always-tough opponent West Orange Stark. Stewart was proud of all of his players who worked really hard. Senior Quarterback Cody Green threw for 280 yards connecting with teammate A.J. Dugat for 219 of them. Back Quarterback Zack Thomas threw for 180 yards. The Broncos fought the Mustangs tough and won by a score of 28-21.
The Broncos will face the Lumberton Raiders in Lumberton on Friday, August 22. The Freshman and Varsity will take the field at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Varsity at 7:00 p.m.
The Broncos will then face the Bay City Blackcats on Friday, August 29.
Friday night football is underway and all of the area football players have worked long and hard. The Big Thicket Messenger encourages all football fans to follow their favorite team and support our area athletes.
