Celebration planned
Big Thicket Messenger - September 2008

Families And Individuals Thanking Heroes (FAITH) Military Support Group will host a country music celebration and barbecue fundraiser – featuring the Texas Sagebrush Band – in the Livingston High School auditorium, on Saturday, August 30. Barbecue will be served from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 6:30 p.m.

Headliners for the event will be the Texas Sagebrush Band who made their name performing at the award-winning Columbus Opry House. Classical Western musicians, The New Pioneers, will offer their traditional harmonic singing reminiscent of the original Sons of the Pioneers, Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Showcase contestants and Rural American Idol competitors Laurie Richardson and Myra Rolen will take the stage, along with Ron Duke, Division III winner, of the Rural American Idol cooperation.

Tickets for the event are $15.00 for the barbecue and concert or $10.00 for the concert only and may be purchased at the following locations: Escapees RV Park, First National Bank, First State Bank, Guaranty Bank, Livingston Physical Therapy, Mike’s Saw and Supply, Out To Lunch Café, People’s State Bank and Toni’s.

All proceeds will benefit the FAITH group which is gearing up for the busy holiday season.

F.A.I.T.H. Military Support Group was organized by Dan and Bea Ellis of Livingston to ship care packages to members of the military with ties to Polk County and currently serving in Iraq.

The organization has pledged to send out as many boxes each month as their postage fund allows and shipping costs are never less than $600 per month.

Items collected for care packages include reheatable packaged meals, peanut butter, magazines, novels, electronic games and puzzle books, used DVDs, hygiene products, sunscreen, band-aids, cereal and power bars, nuts, jerkies, ramen noodles, playing cards, and many other non-perishable items.

The group meets the second Thursday of each month at Livingston Physical Therapy, 305 West Mill street, in Livingston, to gather and box supplies for the troops and anyone who would like to volunteer is welcome.
