Big Thicket Messenger - March 2007
The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will host their monthly luncheon at noon on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at the Immaculate Conception Church Marian Hall.
Jimmy Adkins and Allyson Hughes with Verizon Wireless will be giving a presentation on wireless aircards and pda’s and how they can benefit you. An Aircard is a small card that installs into a laptop computer and allows the user to access wireless data services (through broadband wide-area networks) on the go. This means a person can access the Internet and e-mail while in a moving vehicle, outdoors, at a café, or anyplace where coverage exists for this type of service. Personal digital assistants (PDAs) are handheld computers that were originally designed as personal organizers, but became much more versatile over the years. PDAs are also known as pocket computers or palmtop computers. PDAs have many uses: calculation, use as a clock and calendar, playing computer games, accessing the Internet, sending and receiving E-mails, video recording, typewriting and word processing, use as an address book, making and writing on spreadsheets, use as a radio or stereo, and Global Positioning System (GPS). Newer PDAs also have both phones (smartphones), web browsers, or portable media players. Many PDAs can access the Internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi, or Wireless Wide Area Networks (WWANs). One of the most significant PDA characteristic is the presence of a touch screen.
Jimmy and Allyson will bring items with which to demonstrate and teach as they explain the use of air cards and pda’s. There will be time available for questions and answers after their presentation.
The menu will be catered by Smokey Joe’s Barbecue, Joe Blackmon and Mark Blackmon., and will feature sliced beef barbecue, dirty rice, green beans, dessert, and beverage. Cost is $8.00.
Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling (936) 336-5736 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
