Charlie Wilson VA clinic construction
Big Thicket Messenger - December/January 2007
Groundbreaking ceremonies took place for the new VA outpatient clinic named in honor of former U.S. Congressman Charles Wilson to be located at 2206 North John Redditt Drive in Lufkin on December 7 at 10 a.m.
The new 46,000 square foot facility will offer state-of-the-art health care facilities for veterans in this region of the state.
The larger, more functional facility will replace the two existing smaller clinics located in Lufkin.
Situated on a seven-acre site, the new outpatient clinic will have the ability to provide primary care, mental health care, radiological services, laboratory services, and a pharmacy – all in one location.
The Lufkin firm of Hesters and Sanders Architecture partnered with Langston Construction as a design/build team and was awarded the project through a competitive design process.
Qualifications and designs were submitted by numerous firms throughout Texas in May of 2006.
In addition to technical excellence and the appropriateness of the design in meeting VA needs and criteria, several factors were taken into consideration prior to awarding the project such as building efficiency, energy conservation, functionality, and over-all building systems.
Official announcement of the selected design/build team was made in September of 2007.
The new facility is expected to open in early 2009.
