Big Thicket Messenger - March 2008
The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will host their 32nd Annual Awards Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at Dayton High School on Highway 321.
Keynote speaker will be the Honorable Bill White, Mayor of the City of Houston. Mayor White was elected to office in 2004. Prior to serving as mayor, he built one of the region’s most successful businesses. Previously he served as Deputy Secretary of Energy of the United States, where he helped diversify national energy supplies and saved taxpayers billions of dollars with management reforms. Earlier in his career, he helped build and manage one of the nation’s most successful law firms. Mayor White’s leadership has brought Houston together, as shown by his overwhelming re-election to a third term.
For decades Mayor White and his wife, Andrea, have helped lead numerous charitable and civic organizations. The Whites are parents of three students and attend Houston’s St. Luke’s Methodist Church.
Liberty County District Attorney Mike Little will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the banquet. The 2007 Citizen of the Year for Dayton and Liberty will be announced and outgoing directors will be awarded plaques for their years of service.
Musical entertainment is provided by the Charlie Gray Trio, conducted by Charles Grabein. The recently organized trio features Jim and Lars Kuslich of Dayton, and Charles Grabein. Mr. Grabein is also director of the popular ‘Charlie Gray Band’, which has played for numerous area events.
Caterer for the banquet will be Janice Guedry, owner of The Country Emporium, Liberty. Desserts are catered by Michael Kapalski, Kapalski’s Café and are sponsored by CMC Railyard. Dayton High School’s Teen Team City will again assist the caterers with serving duties. The organization’s sponsor is Susan Oubre.
