Bomb Scare
Big Thicket Messenger - April 2007
On Thursday, March 22, at approximately 2:00 p.m. a man walked into the first floor of the Liberty County Courthouse, near the District Clerk’s Office, and declared in ‘colorful’ language that there was a bomb in the building and it would go off in 10 minutes.
The man, who was described as a black male with dreadlocks, was reportedly driving a mint green Ford Focus. After making the terrifying remark the man immediately left the scene, and fled south on Travis Street toward U.S. 90 at a high rate of speed.
The courthouse was quickly emptied of all occupants to the grounds of Liberty City Hall. The Liberty Police Department, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Liberty County Volunteer Firemen and Emergency personnel quickly shut off the area and began their search for a bomb.
At approximately 2:45 p.m. the ‘all clear’ was given and everyone was allowed to resume business in the Courthouse.
The search continues for the man who reportedly made the bomb scare threat.
