Baby Boy Cantrell Untiro Barkin, infant son of LaShuna Lee and Dwight Barkin of Woodville, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Memorial Health Center in Livingston, Texas. Going Home Celebration Services were held on Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Hillister Community Cemetery in Hillister, Texas. His loving memory will be cherished by his parents, his grandparents, George Lee and Darlene Lee, Alfaye Pool and Sam Barking, Jr., all of Woodville, Texas, a sister, LaShaye Barkin of Woodville, and a host of other relatives and friends. Stella Green Carter, 85, of Fred passed away June 10, 2009. Born July 29, 1923 in Fred, Tx to the late James William and Lee Of Denman Crawford, she lived in Fred all of her life. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Odell Brown and a son, J. W. Cravy. Stella is survived by her daughter, Mae Pharris of Spurger; son, William Green of Vidor; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and twenty-four great, great grandchildren. Funeral service was held Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Glenn “Bubba” Williams and Brother Fernando Lamus officiating. Burial followed at Fred Community Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday evening at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers were Charles Green, Ed Oscar Brown, Earnest Brown, Jr., Robert Brown, James Cravy and James Brown. Services were held under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
Ethel “Moon” Landry, 92, of Woodville, passed away, Monday, June 8, 2009 at Woodville Health & Rehab Center. Funeral services were Thursday, June 11th at 2:00 p.m. at the Woodville United Methodist Church with burial in Magnolia Cemetery all in Woodville. Officiating was Reverend Tommy Williams. Serving as pallbearers were John Wilson, Wayne Pentecost, S. Troy Blakeney, Jack Blakeney, Eddie Johnson, Jr., Jimmy Johnson, Mike Blakeney, Ricky Pentecost and Darin Cowart. Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 10th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville. Ethel was born May 7, 1917 to Napoleon Bonaparte & Vinnie Elizabeth Smyly Poindexter in Doucette, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Tyler County and had worked at J.B. Best Department Store. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Landry. She is survived by her sisters, Hazel Blakeney of Woodville and Dorothy Johnson of Orange, and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends. Memorials may be made to Woodville United Methodist Church Building Fund. Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
On Thursday, May 21, 2009, Olga Nelle Sturrock Prior, age 64, of Cosby, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ and the Heavenly Father. She had battled cancer for 17 years. A native of Houston, Texas, she and husband David Prior retired to Tennessee six years ago. She is preceded in death by her father, Clyne Sam Sturrock, and grandparents Floyd and Mollie Sturrock and J. P. and Lallie Jordan all of Tyier County, Texas. She is survived by her most caring husband of 43 years, David, three loving daughters and their husbands: Melanie and Ken Sutton, Pam and Sterling Smith, all of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Pat and Tim Weeks of Houston, Texas. Also, she leaves behind a special sister Edna Victoria Sturrock of Cosby, Tennessee and her mother Inez Jordan Sturrock, of Newport, Tennessee both natives of Texas. Lauren Nicole Sutton, her only grandchild, was the light of her life. Surviving aunts and uncles are: John Allen Sturrock and wife Rachel of Woodville, Texas; George Downing of Colmesneil, Texas; Lorine Powell of Vidor, Texas; Prentice Jordan of Adkins, Texas, and Jennie Harp of Lumberton, Texas, along with many cousins. “Friends are angels who lift our feet when our own wings have trouble remembering how to fly” - Hugs. She wishes to thank all the faithful and loving friends who through the years have been a tremendous blessing to her life, as well as all who have lifted her up in prayer for many years. God has honored and answered those prayers. A very special “Thank You” to the most precious and wonderful church family a person could ever wish for, the members of Liberty Church of Cosby, Tennessee. A Memorial Service was held at Liberty Church, 4304 Liberty Road, Cosby, Tennessee at 4:00 PM on Saturday May 30, 2009, officiated by Pastor John Rush. Funeral services for Jerry Frank Fielder, 24, of Vidor were held Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with interment following in Turner Branch Cemetery. Visitation was at 5:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Fielder died June 8, 2009 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. A native of Woodville, Jerry was a resident of Spurger and Silsbee before moving to Vidor. He worked as a roughneck. Jerry was preceded in death by his brother James Joshua Fielder and grandfather Franklin R. Fielder. Survivors include his daughters, Jayden Jackson-Fielder and Kahli Jackson-Fielder, both of Orange; father Franklin “Butch” Fielder and stepmother Kelly of Silsbee; mother Ethel Means Fielder of Vidor; brother Butch A. Fielder of Spurger and sister Ethel A. Mitchell of Buna; grandparents Ruth Fielder of Tyler, John and Alvina Means of Spurger and Marvin and Nell Riley Ard of Silsbee. He is also survived by nephews Joshua Fielder, Joseph Fielder, Van Mitchell and nieces Jackie Ebarb and Sarah Fielder. Jessie Irene Noland Baker Ross, 89, of Spring, formerly of Woodville passed away June 13, 2009. Born November 26, 1919 in Vernon, Tx to the late Watt and Nellie Summers Noland, she lived in Woodville for many years. She was a retired nurse. She is survived by her sisters, Alene Cross of Houston, Zula Herring of Porter and Mary Phillips of Spring; grandson, Billy Wayne O’Banion and numerous great grandchildren. A graveside service was held Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Camp Ground Cemetery in Woodville with Brother Barry Phillips officiating. Services were held under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
Luella Long Climer Freis, 84, of Woodville, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at her residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 16th at 2:00 p.m. at the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Officiating was Father Egidio Vecchio. Serving as pallbearers were Dennis Climer, Paul Winter, Bill Kozma, James Kozma, Damon Domke, Wesley Neville and Christopher Climer. Visitation was held on Monday, June 15th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 Rosary all at the funeral home. Luella was born November 12, 1924 to George & Nedia Hebert Long in Crowley, LA. She was a former resident of California and had lived in Woodville since 1992. She was a retired clothing designer for Universal Studios of Hollywood CA and a bridal consultant/designer for Sakowitz Freisof Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Nedia Hebert Long; brother, Paul Allen Long; sisters, Jerry Long Butler & Etha Lou De’Magio Morgan Bess; son, Bert Climer, granddaughter, Wednesday Louise Kozma & great granddaughter, Natalie Rose Kozma. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, John Joseph Freis of Omaha, NE; son & daughter-in-law, Dennis & Tonja Climer of Woodville; daughter & son-in-law, Cynde` & Paul Winter of Woodville; daughter-in-law, Lisa Climer of Woodville; grandchildren, Bill Kozma, Damon & Debra Domke, Lauren Neville,Wesley & Erica Neville, Josh “Winter” Anderson, Denise Climer, Amanda Climer, Dennis Climer, Jr., Christopher Climer, Dawn Climer, and Michael Climer; great grandchildren, James & Ashley Kozma, Halee Kozma, Michael, Elizabeth & Abygael Domke, Alyson Neville, Kayla “Neville” Fontenot, Rodney Jr. & Megan Emmerson and Carson Climer; and great-great grandson, Bryan Kozma; nephews, Jim & Ray Morgan, Ted & Todd Butler; and nieces, Cheryl Birawer, Tesse Birawer & Loy Morgan. Margie Lee Hensarling, 78, of Woodville, passed away, Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Funeral services were Friday, June 12th at 1:00 p.m. at the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Hester Cemetery near Warren. Officiating was Brother Larry Trest. Serving as pallbearers were Thomas Jeffery Sturrock, Thomas Clayton Hensarling, Justin Roy Sturrock, Bart Dean, Kenneth Smith and James Ard. Visitation was held on Thursday, June 11th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Margie was born March 5, 1931 to Dow B. & Mary Vay Hester Dean in Hicksbaugh (Tyler County), Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Tyler County. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Ira Ed Dean. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, T.J. Hensarling of Woodville; son & daughter-in-law, Tommy & Kathi Hensarling of Woodville; daughter & son-in-law, Pam & Bobby Joe Stephens of Lufkin; brother & sister-in-law, D.B. & Linda Dean of Woodville; sisters, Sarah Ard and Shirley Brown both of Woodville and Sue Baxter of Vidor; grandchildren, Justin Sturrock of Sugar Land, Lee Ann Breaux of Port Acres, Thomas Sturrock of Lufkin and Clay Hensarling of Lufkin; great grandchildren, Thomas Jeffery Sturrock, Jr. and Keelie Marie Breaux.
