CURTIS MILTON SIMMONS
Mr. Curtis Milton Simmons, age 87 of Crockett, passed away Friday, April 10, 2009 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mr. Simmons was born November 8, 1921 in Cooks Point, Texas and had lived in Crockett since 1984, previously living most of his lifetime in Houston. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where having served on the U.S.S. Flasher the most decorated submarine during World War II. Mr. Simmons had worked for the Houston Police Department for 27 years and retired as Sergeant. He was a member of the Lovelady Masonic Lodge and First United Methodist Church in Lovelady. 
Survivors include his sons Milton Simmons and wife Mary, of Weldon, Richard Simmons, of Lovelady; daughter Hope Knaust and husband Stan, of Terrell; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother Bill Simmons and wife Tina, of Pearland; his children’s mother Alma Sormani, of Terrell; special friend Bettie Driskell, of Crockett; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Simmons; sister Ruby Freeman; parents Clifford and Myrtle Simmons; half-brother Raymond Simmons; half-sister Faye Shook; and granddaughter Faith Simmons.
Funeral Services for Mr. Curtis Milton Simmons were held Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ottis Byers officiating.  Interment followed in the Lovelady Antioch Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lovelady Masonic Lodge.

EVELYN MORGAN
Mrs. Evelyn Morgan, age 82 of Crockett, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009 in the Whitehall Nursing Home in Crockett. Mrs. Morgan was born August 8, 1926 in Foster, Oklahoma and had lived in Houston County most of her lifetime. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Morgan was a housewife and was also a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters Patricia Montemayor and husband Pete, of Post Falls, ID., Datha Mistretta, of Trinidad, Jody Doyle and wife Pam, of Phillipsburg, Mo. And Teresa Chancellor and husband Kevin, of Rusk; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister Barbara Allen, of Marlow, Okla.; brother Charles Russell, of Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Evelyn Morgan were held Monday, April 20, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Terry Gibson officiating. Interment was in the Marlow Cemetery in Marlow, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 210 S. Eighth Street, Crockett, Texas 75835.

EVELYN MARIE SHAVER OLIVER
Ms. Evelyn Marie Shaver Oliver, age 98 of Latexo, passed away Monday, April 9, 2009. Ms. Oliver was born November 3, 1910 in Grapeland. She grew up and lived her life in Latexo. Ms. Oliver worked and retired as the cook at Latexo Independent School and she was a life-long member of Sunset Christian Church.
Survivors include her two granddaughters Lynda Lee Hill and Tara Jo Williams; one grandson Charles "Sam" Hill, Jr.; four great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; two great-great-granddaughters; two great-great-grandsons; three nieces Ann Spruil Walton, Edna Erle Spruil Grasty and Jean Marie Shaver Frye; two nephews Sam and Bill Shaver; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceded in death by her daughter Anita Oliver Hill; two grandsons Henry and Richard Hill; four brothers; and one sister.
Funeral Services for Ms. Evelyn Marie Shaver Oliver were held Thursday, April 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Christian Church with the Rev. Vance Drum officiating. Interment followed in Denson Cemetery.

IMA JEAN BURTON
Mrs. Ima Jean Burton, age 81 of Kennard, passed away Friday, April 10, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Burton was born November 27, 1927 in Houston County and had lived in the Kennard area most of her lifetime. She was a past member of the Eastern Star and attended the Tabernacle of Praise Church in Kennard.
Survivors include her husband Joe S. Burton, of Kennard; son Ricky Burton and wife Paula, of Kennard; grandchildren Ryan Burton and Cristin Burton, both of Kennard; sister Margie Smith, of Kennard; nephew Danny Smith and wife Roberta, of Kennard; favorite sister-in-law Sue Lundy, of Lovelady numerous other relatives also survive.
Preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Eula Thames; and sister Betty Kiser.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Ima Jean Burton were held Monday, April 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Tabernacle of Praise Church with the Rev. Grady Gladden and Ronnie Gladden officiating.  Interment followed in the Ivie Cemetery.

JOE BOB HESTER SR.
Mr. Joe Bob Hester, Sr., age 82 of Groveton, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Hester was born February 20, 1927 to Arthur Lee and Libbie (Morrow) Hester in Lovelady, Texas and was a lifetime resident of Groveton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served on the U.S.S. WASP during World War II. Mr. Hester was a volunteer fireman for many years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Groveton since 1938 where he served on the Board and Stewards and was Chairman of the Building Fund and Memorials. He had worked in his family business, Hester Texaco Service Station, during high school and after. Mr. Hester married Carol Faye Rich of Crockett on September 6, 1958 and one son, Joe Bob Jr, “Bobby” was born in 1960. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1992 after 32 years of service as a rural letter carrier. Mr. Hester was a devoted husband and father.
Survivors include his wife Carol Faye (Rich) Hester, of Groveton; son Joe Bob Hester, Jr. and wife Rhonda, of Durham, NC.; brothers Clayton Gene Hester and wife Anna, of Groveton and Roy Lee Hester and wife Marie, of Beaumont; sister-in-law Nancy Rich, of Crockett; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives; loving pet: Kitty Tom.
Preceded in death by his parents Arthur Lee and Libbie (Morrow) Hester; brother James Arthur Hester; sister Eloise Hester Schubert; and brother-in-law James E. “Buck” Rich.
Funeral Services for Mr. Joe Bob Hester, Sr. were held Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Groveton with the Rev. Everett McCollum and the Rev. Ben Bagley officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park in Crockett.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church-Groveton Building Fund, 221 Church Avenue, Groveton, Texas 75845 or Alzheimers Association, Star Chapter-Nacogdoches.

LILLIAN K. NEUBAUER
Mrs. Lillian K. Neubauer, age 90 of Pearson Chapel, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009 in the Tomball Regional Hospital. Mrs. Neubauer was born April 14, 1918 in Houston County, Texas and had lived most of her lifetime in Pearson Chapel. She was a retired teacher and a member of the Pearson Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons John Neubauer and wife Phyllis, of Pinehurst, Jim Neubauer, of Pearson Chapel; daughter-in-law Brenda Neubauer, of Pearson Chapel; grandchildren Wes, Garrett, Samara Jo and Cassie Neubauer; sister Doris Northcutt, of Rock Springs, Wyo.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by her husband Gentry Neubauer; son Jack Neubauer; and parents Wes and Azmie Knox.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Lillian K. Neubauer were held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Scott Matthews officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lovelady.

NEAL MIDDLETON
Mr. Neal Middleton, age 47 of Lovelady, formerly of Huntsville, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at his residence in Lovelady.  Mr. Middleton was born September 1, 1961 in Houston, Texas and had been living in Lovelady for the past 5 years, previously living in Huntsville. Mr. Middleton had worked as a truck driver and was a member of the University Heights Baptist Church in Huntsville. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, going to the beach and playing golf. Mr. Middleton loved martial Arts and was a black belt in Judo and Karate.
Survivors include his dad Guy Nolan Middleton, of Lovelady; daughters Regan Hunter, of Magnolia, Amber Middleton, of League City, Samantha Middleton, Morgan Middleton, both of Huntsville; sisters Debra Marsh and husband Bob, of Goodrich, Mary Brasher, of Livingston; grandchildren Zoie Hunter, Gavin Hunter, and two more Grandchildren on the way; best friend Bruce Klawinski, of Willis; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death his by mother Mamie Virginia Middleton.
Funeral Services for Mr. Neal Middleton were held Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kent Lucas officiating. Interment followed in the Weldon Cemetery.

PAUL R. HUFFMAN
Mr. Paul R. Huffman, age 87 of Crockett, passed away Monday, April 13, 2009 at his residence in Crockett. Mr. Huffman was born May 17, 1921 in Norwood, Wright County, Missouri and had lived in Crockett most of his lifetime. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served as Staff Sergeant in the 359th Replacement Company during World War II. 
Mr. Huffman was a member of the Stockyards Lodge # 1244 A.F. & A.M.  He was a retired rancher and was also a member of the Latexo Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Randy and Karen Huffman, of Crockett; grandsons Blayne Huffman, of Houston, Clint Huffman, of Conroe; great-grandson Adin Huffman, of Centerville; brother Jack Huffman, of Alvin; special friends The Billy Crowson Family; special caregiver Lucy Tillis; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his wife Marie Huffman; brothers Pope Huffman and Luther Huffman; sister Elizabeth Owens; and parents Luther A. and Iris Pope Huffman.
Memorial Services for Mr. Paul R. Huffman were held Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Latexo Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Taylor officiating.

PEGGY EUGENE PEEBLES EVANS
Mrs. Peggy Eugene Peebles Evans, age 83, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in Crockett. Mrs. Evans was born November 12, 1925 in Groveton and was a 1942 graduate of Groveton High School. She also was a graduate of the Trinity School of Nursing and worked as a nurse for many years.
In 1981, following the death of her husband, longtime Sheriff Lynn Evans, Mrs. Evans was appointed to replace him. She served as sheriff for the remainder of that year.
During her later years, she became a caregiver for her mother and stepfather. She also was known as a loving mother and grandmother and was a faithful member of her church. She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Lynda Evans Crowson and Billy; three sons and daughter-in-law Joe Lynn Evans, William Worth Evans and Trinity County Judge Mark Evans and wife District Judge Elizabeth Coker; seven grandchildren and their spouses Shawn Ray and Rhonda Blair, Lane Scott and Susan Blair, Elizabeth Anne Evans, Katherine Marie Evans, Joseph Colin Evans, Taylor Christian Evans and Avery Lynn Evans; two great-grandchildren Ashley Carol Blair and Sarah Elizabeth Blair; and numerous of other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband Lynn Scott Evans; son Patrick Evan Evans; father Eugene Peebles; stepfather Emmett James; and mother Jimmie Dorman James.
A Mass of Resurrection for former Trinity County Sheriff Mrs. Peggy Eugene Peebles Evans was held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Tom Edelen officiating. Interment followed in the Sumpter Cemetery in Groveton.
Pallbearers were Joe Scott Evans, Rush Fitzpatrick evans, Iverson Grimes Evans Jr., John Steven Evans, Shawn Ray Blair, Lane Scott Blair, Paul David Evans and Larry Wayne Evans.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, donations may be made to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinity or Sumpter Cemetery in Groveton.

RONNIE E. SCHROEDER
Mr. Ronnie E. Schroeder, age 57 of Crockett, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in the East Texas Medical Center-Tyler. Mr. Schroeder was born November 23, 1951 in Houston, Texas and had been living in Crockett for the past 16 years. He was owner and operator of a lawn service.
Survivors include his daughter Amber Burson and husband Jonathan, of Kennard; son Michael Schroeder, of Crockett; mother Mary Basye and husband Miller, of Crockett; brothers Bobby Schroeder, of Houston, Mike Schroeder and wife Billie, of Brazoria; mother-in-law Alice Dardar, of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his wife Patti Schroeder; father Wilbert Schroeder; step-brother Jerry Pugh; and nephew Len Anthony Schroeder.
Funeral Services for Mr. Ronnie E. Schroeder were held Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Goss and the Rev. Grady Gladden officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park.
