Houston County Courier- December 20, 2009 - December 31, 2009

Mr. Floyd Knowls, Jr., age 81 of Crockett, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Knowls was born October 21, 1928 in Desdemona, Texas and was a resident of Crockett for the past 13 ½ years. Mr. Knowls was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served during World War II. He was retired having worked as an elevator adjustor for the National Elevator Industry having worked 32 years for Otis and 8 years for VTM. Mr. Knowls was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Crockett. Mr. Knowls will be miss by everyone that knew him.
Survivors include his wife Rebecca Knowls, of Crockett; son Gary Knowls, of Conroe; daughter Audrey Graham and husband David, of Alvin; foster sons Dustin and Donavon Tomlinson, both of Houston; grandchildren Daniel Knowls and wife Christine, of Cleveland, Ohio, Deborah Clark and husband Chris, of Tulsa, Okla., Lorne Knowls and fiancé Ashley, of Conroe and Brian Graham and fiancé Ashlee, of Alvin; great-grandchildren          Trenton, Cameron and Wesley; sister Neta Lobue of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his parents Floyd Knowls, Sr. and Myrtle Knowls.
Funeral Services for Mr. Floyd Knowls, Jr. were held Monday, December 21, 2009 in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Womack officiating.  Military Graveside Services followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the A Pineywoods Hospice, 2205 E. Goliad Crockett, Texas  75835.

Mr. Clinton Ray Ferguson, age 25 of Latexo, went home to be with his Momma and Mammie Saturday, December 19, 2009. Mr. Ferguson was born May 19, 1984 in Liberty, Tx to Joyce Patton and Gaylon Ferguson. He was a free spirit who loved life and lived it to the fullest. Mr. Ferguson was a loyal friend and always true to his family. His sons were his life, and he was always trying to better himself for them. He loved to be barefoot, and loved the simple things in life. He was a truly good person and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his twin sons Nathan and Timothy Ferguson and their Mom, Jessica McDonald, of Lovelady; sisters Christi Ferguson Morrow and husband Paul Morrow and Michelle (Nikki) Ferguson, all of Richwood; half-sister Sara Ferguson, of Batson; father and step-mother Gaylon and Glenda Ferguson, of Batson; step-father Thomas Gilson, of Latexo; grandmother Ethel Smith, of Happy Hollow; grandfather Buster Patton, of Happy Hollow; grandmother Pat Ferguson, of Batson; one nephew Judah Morrow, of Richwood; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Preceded in death by his mother Joyce Ferguson on July 16, 2009; grandmother Emma Yates on December 30, 2008; grandfathers Clyde Ferguson and M. L. (Peepaw) Smitty Smith; and aunt Sissy Patton.
Funeral Services for Mr. Clinton Ray Ferguson were held Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ephesus Baptist Church with Randy Hargrove officiating. Interment  followed in the Milligan Cemetery.

Mr. George Willis Shaver, age 90 of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 in the Huntsville Health Care Center. Mr. Shaver was born September 12, 1919 in Grapeland, Texas and had been living in Huntsville since April 2009. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. Mr. Shaver was a retired printer and a member of the Loop 304 Church of Christ in Crockett.
Survivors include his daughter Gorgana Hyde and husband Joe, of Huntsville; grandchildren Jeremy Daniel Hyde and Casey Shaver Hyde, both of Huntsville; great-grandchildren Nathan Blake Hyde, of Lovelady and Harber Jo Hyde, of Huntsville; brother Johnny Shaver, of Crockett; sister Margie Cecil, of Palestine; nephew James Matchett Morgan, of Spring Branch; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his wife Charlyne Matchett Shaver; great-grandson Jasher Drake Hyde; and nephew Charles Morgan.
Funeral Services for Mr. George Willis Shaver were held Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Mr. Rick Kelley and Mr. Doug Page officiating. Interment followed in the Lovelady Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Barbara Annette Sailer Cross, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009. Mrs. Cross was born on December 16, 1936 in Carmona, Texas to Lawrence and Faye Sailor. She graduated from Groveton High School where she grew up and enjoyed being a cheerleader. She went on to work in three banks and moved to Crockett in 1964 where she met wonderful friends that made her job a joy.
Mrs. Cross enjoyed camping and traveling with family and a lovely group of dear friends. Also dear to her were her group of card friends that she loved getting together with as often as possible. She was past president of Corrigan PTA and had worked as a volunteer for the Cub Scouts and Webelos. She was a member of United Methodist Church. Mrs. Cross was a kind woman, a wonderful wife, a good friend to all who knew her and a most loving mother to her children. She will truly be missed but never forgotten.
Survivors include her husband Glenn Cross; son James Cross and wife Jana of San Antonio; daughter Glynda Hightower and husband Keith, of Montgomery; son David Buddy Cross and wife Angela, of Crockett; four wonderful grandchildren Ashley Cross, Renee' Hightower, Dana Ellis and David Austin Cross; sister Miram Lockhart and husband Thomas Lockhart, living in Corrigan; and a deceased brother Sam Sailer and wife Opal of Pasadena.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Barbara Annette Sailer Cross were held Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in         the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Keeney Dickenson officiating. Interment followed in the Carmona Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Support Group of Houston County, c/o First Community Bank, P. O. Box 172, Crockett, Texas 75835.

Mr. Jack A. Martin, age 74, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009 in Spring. Mr. Martin was born December 8, 1935 in Houston, Texas to William and Ruby Martin.
