HAZEL MILLWEE
Mrs. Hazel Millwee, age 72 of Crockett, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mrs. Millwee was born September 9, 1938 in St. Joseph, Louisiana and had lived in Crockett most of her lifetime. Mrs. Millwee was a member of the V. F. W. Lodge Ladies Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker and attended the Baptist Church. Survivors include her son James Millwee, of Crockett; daughter Deborah Johnson and husband Carl, of Conroe; grandchildren Jami Johnson and John Johnson, of Conroe, Samantha Vaughn, of Crockett, Jeanne Millwee, of Latexo, Daniel Millwee, of Dallas, Luke Crowson and Cody Crowson, of Grapeland; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, W. C. Millwee; sons Billy Millwee and Bobby Millwee; daughter Pamela K. Crowson; grandsons Robbie Vaughn and William Robert Vaughn; and all of her brothers and sisters. Funeral Services for Mrs. Hazel Millwee were held Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Randy Hargrove officiating. BILLY RAY WILSON JR.
Mr. Billy Ray Wilson, Jr. age 54 of Crockett, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Wilson was born and raised in Texas City on August 23, 1956 and was a 1975 graduate of Texas City High School. Mr. Wilson received an Associate’s degree in Drafting. He was currently a resident of Crockett having also lived in Huntsville. Mr. Wilson was a lifetime Southern Baptist and was a lifetime member of the N. R. A. Survivors include his estrange wife Kellie Jo Wilson, of Huntsville; step-children Leslie Lynne Haltom and James Virgil LaRue; adopted daughter Justice Cheyene LaRue; mother Hazel Irene Stanton Wilson Lively, of Elkhart; brothers Anthony Russell Wilson, of Crockett and David Paul Wilson, of Texas City; nephews Jeremy Stanton Wilson and Keith Taylor Wilson, both of Texas City; aunt Alice Derduen and husband Rodney, of Woodville; uncle Jim Stanton, of Edge; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. MIKE STRICKLAND
Mr. Mike Strickland, age 55 of Alto formally of Lake Fork, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 in Nacogdoches. Mr. Strickland was born June 15, 1955 in Crockett to Charles Strickland and Trubie Lucas. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War and served on the U.S.S. Warden and in the honor guard. Mr. Strickland was a Christian and had worked as a truck driver. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his mother and step-father Trubie Moake Bolch and Ken Bolch, of Alto; father Charles Strickland, of Alto; sister and brother-in-law Cheryl and Brian Gumpert, of Alto; daughter and her mother Molly Strickland and Paula Strickland, of Mineola; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral Services for Mr. Mike Strickland were held Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at O.T. Allen&Son Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Gillet officiating. Allen&Son Funeral Home VIRGIL GROAT Mr. Virgil Groat, age 76 of Crockett, passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 in ETMC-Tyler. Mr. Groat was born September 1, 1934 in Cherokee County, Oklahoma to Floyd and Cuba Thorton Groat. After serving 4 years in the U.S. Navy, he graduated from Oklahoma State University, where he met Euleta, his wife of 52 years. After graduation, he began his 32-year career with TXU, which took him to Wichita Falls, Lamesa, and Arlington. After retirement, he moved to Crockett, where he has lived for the past 12 years. He believed in volunteerism and has received numerous awards from civic and charitable organizations for his contributions over the years. After arriving in Crockett, he devoted his time to the First Baptist Church as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and in the television ministry; as a volunteer for the ETMC maintenance department.; and as an ambassador for the Crockett Area Chamber of Commerce, where he was known as the Chamber’s “Free Spirit.” Prior to moving to Crockett, he was a member of the Optimist Club, the Kiwanis, the American Cancer Society, and was instrumental in establishing the first Girl’s Softball League in Lamesa, Texas. He also enjoyed world travel and always had a story to tell about his adventures. Survivors include his wife Euleta Groat, of Crockett; daughters Reanna Foster and husband Bruce, of Flat Rock, N C, Ardita Vick and husband James, of Dallas, Delia Groat, of Mansfield; grandchildren, Matthew Vick, of Houston, Zachary Vick, of Norman, Okla. and Irene Groat, of Mansfield; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Cuba Groat; brothers Kenneth Groat and Lawrence Groat; and sister Lois Bill. Funeral Services for Mr. Virgil Groat were held Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Crockett with the Rev. Keeney Dickenson officiating. ROBERT LEE HAZLETT
Mr. Robert Lee Hazlett, Jr. age 78 of Crockett, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at his family home. March 16 was the day our loved one passed away, but we lost him 3 years ago to Alzheimer’s. Mr. Hazlett was born August 15, 1932 in Houston County and lived in Houston County for the majority of his life. In 1952, Robert married Jane Salisbury and this began their 58 year journey together. The Oil and Gas Industry took Robert and Jane to Jal, New Mexico, the Permian Basin, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. He was knowledgeable in the operation of natural gas processing plants, drilling operations and production. In 1991, he retired from Mitchell Energy as East Texas District Superintendent. Upon retirement, Robert and Jane raised cattle on their ranch near Crockett and traveled through the United States. He was a member of Lovelady First United Methodist Church, and was a 50-year, 32nd Degree Mason. Survivors include his wife Jane Salisbury Hazlett; son Jim Hazlett and wife Becky, of Midland; daughter Karen Dailey and husband Mitch, of Crockett; son Joel Hazlett and wife Sherri, of Crockett; grandchildren Jarod Hazlett, Krista Weathers and husband Adam, Morgan Sebree and husband Justin, Laura Hazlett, Courtney Allen and Kati Hazlett, Ashley Crabtree and husband Josh, Jill Goyens and husband Chris, Robert Mitchell Dailey and wife Branalyn, Molly Hazlett Simmons and husband Douglas, and Joseph Hazlett; great-grandchildren Keaton, Brylee, Kamdyn, Brannen, Hayden, Rhyder; sister Dorothy Goodrum; mother-in-law Doris Kennedy Salisbury; sister-in-law Diane and husband Larry Wilson; niece Dee Ann and husband Steve Sweeny; nephews David Goodrum and wife Frieda and Cary McMahon; and long time caregiver Carolyn Terrell. KATHLEEN TURNER
Mrs. Kathleen Turner, age 86 of Crockett, passed away, Thursday, March 17, 2011 in the Winfield Healthcare in Crockett. Mrs. Turner was born September 20, 1924 in Augusta, Texas and had lived in Houston County, previously living in Corsicana. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Latexo Alumni Association and the Ephesus Baptist Church. She was retired having worked for 40 years at Miller Brothers Hat Factory. Mrs. Turner loved kids, games and was an avid sports fan of Latexo School. Survivors include her son John Owens Turner and wife Marilyn, of Latexo; grandchildren Ashley Michelle Currie and husband Bradley, of Kennard and Heather Nicole Germeroth and husband Brady, of Crockett; special niece Anna Jo Sullivan, of Latexo; special friend Toby Low, of Latexo; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Ms. Patricia Ann Roy, age 63 of Kennard, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 in Bryan. Ms. Roy was born July 18, 1947 in Orange, Texas and had lived in Kennard for 29 years, previously living in Houston. Ms. Roy was retired having worked as a dental assistant for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and attended the Community Full Gospel Church in Kennard. Survivors include her children Sherri Tynefield and husband Gale, of Montgomery, James “Jimmy” White and wife Tracey, Johnny White and wife Angie, all of Kennard and Cristy Bacarisse and husband Jeff, of Mont Belvieu; grandchildren Andy, Megan, Haley, Johnny, Alli, Anna, Taylor and Abby; great-grandchild Ethan ; brothers Larry Roy and wife Kay, Mike Roy and wife Heather, all of Kennard, Phillip Roy and wife Sharon, of Willis and Mark Roy, of Fort Smith, Ark.; sister Susie Hopper, of Cedar Park; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
