MARJORIE JOYCE MAYO
 Mrs. Marjorie Joyce Mayo, age 81 of Crockett, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007. Mrs. Mayo was born March 23, 1926.
Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Henry B. Mayo; daughter Carolyn Keels; sons Milton Gullick and wife Roberta and Jerry Gullick and wife Terry; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Dorothy Broussard and Marlene Birdwell.
Preceded in death by her granddaughter Jerolyn Gullick; sister Marion Gladys Railey; and brother Robert Charles Bunch.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Marjorie Joyce Mayo were held Saturday, November 24, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home. Interment followed at Forest Park East Cemetery.

MARK ALBERT SLIGAR
Mr. Mark Albert Sligar, age 79 of Grapeland, formerly of Houston, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2007 in the Hospice in the Pines in Lufkin. Mr. Sligar was born October 27, 1928 in Dallas and had lived most of his lifetime in Houston until moving to Grapeland in 1990. Mr. Sligar was a veteran of the National Guard. Mr. Sligar was a 40-year-member of the Masonic Lodge #21and a member of San Pedro Baptist Church. Mr. Sligar was retired having worked in the used tire business.
Survivors include his wife Corinne Sligar, of Grapeland; son Mark Dale Sligar, of Rosharon; daughters Wanda Joyce Hedrick and husband Paul, of Spring, Janet Broussard and husband Bo, of Katy; grandchildren Joey Broussard and wife Dara, Shawn Broussard, Chelsea Broussard, all of Katy, Chad Hedrick and Natalie Hedrick, both of Spring; great-grandchildren Mallory, Tristan, Addison, and Keely Broussard; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and all of our loving friends.
Preceded in death by his parents Mark Albert Sligar and Alice (Palmer) Sligar; sister Clo Burch; and niece Patti Slotts.
Funeral Services for Mr. Mark Albert Sligar were held Thursday, November 8, at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dewayne Pollard, the Rev. Tommy Hutto and the Rev. Elliott Reagan officiating.  Interment followed in the Latexo Cemetery.

MAURICE BRADLEY CURRIE
Mrs. Maurice Bradley Currie, age 72, of Latexo passed away Monday, November 12, 2007 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mrs. Currie was born March 12, 1935 in Grapeland and was a resident of Latexo most of her lifetime. Mrs. Currie was a housewife and attended the Ephesus Baptist Church.
Survivors included her daughters Kathy Baird and husband Kenneth, of Spring, Patricia Ann Crisler and husband David LeRoy, of Latexo; grandchildren Brandy Thomas, of Houston, Chelsea Baird, of Spring, Danny Gene Wade, David LeRoy Crisler, Linda Darnell Crisler, all of Houston; great-grandchild Lauren, of Houston; brothers Wesley Bradley and wife Maxine, of Latexo and Jim Bradley and wife Shirley, of Huntsville; sisters-in-law Faye Currie, Nellie Currie, both of Latexo, Exie Lee Parrish, of Kennard; special aunt  Florene Graham; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by husband K. D. Currie in 1995; and grandson, Kenny Lee Wade in 2005.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Maurice Bradley Currie were held Wednesday, November 14, at 10:00 a. m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ottis Byers officiating. Interment followed in the Latexo Cemetery.

MELANIE MCRAE
Miss Melanie McRae, age 52 of Crockett, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at her residence in Crockett.  Miss McRae was born January 2, 1955 in Pasadena, Texas and had been a resident of Crockett for the past 15 years.
Survivors include her father Don McRae, of Dana Point, Calif.; sister Melinda McRae Keller, of Houston; aunts Grace Hayhurst, of Kerrville, Robbie Carroll, of Dallas, Dona Sue Curry, of Crockett, Ida Morrow, of Pasadena, Peggy LaVrier, of Conroe, Lita Hughes, Sharon Lumnus, both of Houston, Cheryl Goodman, of New Port News, Va.; numerous other relatives.
Preceded in death by her mother Patricia Curry.
Graveside Funeral Services for Miss Melanie McRae were held Sunday,
November 18, at 2:00 p. m. in the Corinth Cemetery with the Rev. Keeney Dickenson officiating.

ODESSA LAVERNE PHELPS PRESTRIDGE
Mrs. Odessa Laverne Phelps Prestridge, age 87 of Crockett, previously of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2007 in the Houston County Nursing Home in Crockett. Mrs. Prestridge was born June 17, 1920 in Wilson, Oklahoma to Charlie Lee and Pearlie Hicks Tower.  After living in the Alvin area for more than 30 years, she resided in Elkhart for over 20 years before entering Houston County Nursing Home. Mrs. Prestridge was a homemaker and Foster parent to more than 80 children in the Brazoria and Galveston County area. Mrs. Prestridge was a volunteer for the Sunshine Guild at Palestine Regional Medical Center for over 5 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkhart.
Survivors include her children Argaree Arline Rose, of Elkhart, Perry Lee Phelps and wife Patricia, of Texas City, Davida Ruth Phelps, of Liverpool, Michael Wayne Phelps and wife Teresa, of Elkhart; special friends Kathleen and Roy Dyches, of Crockett; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter;
sister Clarice Crews, of League City; brother R. Q. Tower of Talco.
Preceded in death by her parents Charlie Lee and Pearlie (Hicks) Tower; husband of 59 years, David Richard Phelps, husband, William Clay Prestridge; five brothers; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Odessa Laverne Phelps Prestridge will be held Monday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m. in the Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.

SHIRLEY ALFRED ANSLEM
Mrs. Shirley Alfred Anslem, age 64 of Grapeland, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2007 in the Palestine Regional Hospital. Mrs. Anslem was born June 1, 1943 in Crockett and had lived in Houston County all of her lifetime. Mrs. Anslem was a homemaker and a member of the Georgia Camp Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter Cheryl Johnson and husband Jimmy, of Grapeland; son Roy Anslem and wife Pebbles, of Grapeland; grandchildren Emily Johnson, of Grapeland, Raven Anslem, of Crockett, Roy Joseph Anslem, Jr., of Grapeland; sisters Mae Huntsman, Joyce Turner and husband Cubby, all of Lovelady, Betty Rowland, of Buffalo, Bonnie Duval, of Grapeland; brother Jesse Alfred and wife Jonell, of Grapeland; sister-in-law Patsy Wade and husband Ben, of Ala.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by her husband Herman Anslem; parents Lawrence and Maggie (Phillips) Alfred; sisters Mamie Salmon, Ruby Lane, Mary Oliver, Nellie Myers and Helen Alldredge; brother Bert Alfred; mother-in-law Inez Anslem Majors; father–in-law Harvey Majors; and brother-in-law Mervin Anslem.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Shirley Alfred Anslem were held Saturday, November 10, at 2:00 p. m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ottis Byers officiating.  Interment followed in the Creek Cemetery.

WELDON W. GARRETT
Mr. Weldon W. Garrett, age 81 of Crockett, passed away Monday, November 5, 2007 in Winfield Healthcare in Crockett. Mr. Garrett was born August 9, 1926 in Kerrville and had been a resident of Crockett since 1962. Early in his adult life, he was a foreman for the Dixie Pipeline then became a carpenter and cabinet builder. Mr. Garrett retired from the Texas Department of Corrections as a correctional officer then became a teacher of buildings and trades in the Windham School System where he lastly retired. Mr. Garrett was a member of the Sharon Shriners of Tyler, Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, Lothrop Lodge #21, and the Order of Eastern Star. Mr. Garrett was presently serving on the Monroe Crook Board and was a past board member of the East Texas Women’s Shelter which he was one of the original founders in Crockett. Mr. Garrett was a member and deacon of the Grace Street Church of Christ.  Mr. Garrett was an avid hunter, enjoyed woodworking and loved to refinish antiques.
Survivors include his wife Betty Garrett; sons Danny Garrett, of Little Elm, Jay Garrett and wife Rhonda of Centennial, Colo. and Johnny Garrett and wife Donna, of Crockett; daughter Chari Townsend and husband Steven, of Marble Falls; grandchildren Wayne and Meredith Garrett, of The Colony, Jerry and Tammy Garrett, of Platteville, Colo., Jay and Kim Garrett, of Flower Mound, Misty and Brandon Longcrier of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jarrod Garrett of Centennial, Colo., Rachael Allen, John Austin Garrett, all of League City and Angie and John Kandis, of Round Rock; great-grandchildren Kinny and Chelsea  Garrett, of Frisco, Evin Garrett, Skylar Garrett, Marissa Garrett, all of The Colony, Brandon and Elizabeth Hutchens, of Colo., Cole and Stone Garrett, of Flower Mound, Meagan Allen–Kandis, of Roundrock, Logan Longcrier, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Briana and Richard Morris, Kiara Hutchens, both of Colo.; great-great-grandchildren Collin and Mason Garrett, of Frisco, Haley Hutchens, Aubrana Branco and Garrett Branco, all of Colo.; brother Jerry Garrett and wife Sue, of Crockett; sisters Dorothy Jones, of Mesquite, Pat McFerron and husband Paul, of Siloam Springs, Ark.; brother-in-law Lynn Barrier, of Crockett; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his father and mother Wilby and Gladys (DeMasters) Garrett; grandson Darrell Garrett; and great-great-grandson Michael Hutchens.
Funeral Services for Mr. Weldon W. Garrett were held Thursday, November 8, at 10:00 a.m. in the Grace Street Church of Christ with Mr. Rick Kelley officiating. Interment followed in the Bynum Cemetery.
