BOBBIE JEAN BURKE
   Funeral services for Bobbie Jean Burke, 66, of Apple Springs, Texas was held Wednesday April 15, 2009 at 3:00pm at the Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Lindsey Nimmons officiating. Interment followed in Calvary Cemetery.
  Mrs. Burke was born September 24, 1942 in Houston, Texas and passed away Monday April 13, 2009 in Apple Springs, Texas she was affiliated with Apple Springs Baptist Church.
  Pallbearers were Wesley Burke, Michael Burke, Brandon Burke, Jonathon Burke, Christopher Ross, Matthew Ross, and James Ross.
  Survivors include her husband Kenneth David Burke of Apple Springs; sons David and Alissa Burke of Hudson, Kenneth M. Burke of Apple Springs, Mark and Debbie Burke of Buchanon, Virginia, Charles Eugene Burke of Apple Springs, and Andy and Julie Burke of Carrolton, Georgia; daughters Brenda Burke of Lufkin, Glenda Burke of Apple Springs, and Kristina Burke of Pasadena; sisters Melba and Joe Bolton of Houston and Vanona and Gary Conarroe of Groveton; brothers Tilton and Lindy Warren of Apple Springs an William and Adrienne Warren of Lufkin; sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
  Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Cemetery Association.

GLORIA SUE COOK
  Funeral services for Gloria Sue Cook, 64, of Porter, Texas formerly of Grapeland, Texas was held Wednesday April 15, 2009 at 11:00am in the Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Willis officiating.  Interment followed in the Davis Cemetery in Grapeland, Texas.
   Mrs. Cook was born February 23, 1945 in Groveton, Texas and passed away Sunday April 12, 2009 in Porter, Texas; she was a homemaker and associated with New Caney Church of Christ.
   Survivors include her husband bobby Gale Cook of Porter; daughter and son in law Dawn Renee and Scott Adrian Alexander; mother Thelma Lois Nichols; brothers Robert Wayne Nichols and Gary Wilford Nichols; grandson Jesse Adrian Alexander; and granddaughter Skylar Alexander.
   Memorial contribution may be made to the Susan B. Coleman Foundation (American Cancer Society).

MARY LUCILLE BEARD GIBSON
   Funeral services for Mary Lucille Beard Gibson, 98, were held Saturday April 11, 2009 under the Pavilion at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Trinity with Rev. Jeff McDonald officiating. 
  Mrs. Gibson died peacefully in her sleep Friday April 3, 2009 at Cartmell Home for the Aged in Palestine, Texas.  She was the second of five children born to Elijah Jefferson (E.J.) Beard and Essie Maring on September 11, 1910 in Exline, Iowa. 
   She began her formal education at the one-room Beard School and graduated with a degree in Home Economics from Iowa State College (now Iowa State University) in 1932. After graduation she taught Home Economics in Jessup, Iowa.  While at Iowa State, she met and was courted by George Guilford “Hoot” Gibson. They were married at the Gibson Hotel in Trinity on July 11, 1934.  Throughout their life together, she was his loyal and devoted partner.
   The family lived in Bryan, TX for many years where Mrs. Gibson was very involved in activities in the community including, organizations sur-rounding the Agricultural Extension Service, the Methodist Church, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood of which she was a 77-year member. In 1957, Mr. Gibson joined the USAID branch of the State Department. They served in Pakistan, India and Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Upon retirement in 1965 Mr. and Mrs. Gibson returned to Trinity and were very active in many aspects of community life including the Blanche K. Werner Library, Historical Society, Garden Club and the First United Methodist Church.
   Her parents, a sister, Maxine, her husband in 1999, and son-in-law, Jim Bullis, precede Mrs. Gibson in death.
   Survivors include her daughters and their husbands Margaret and Harold Rominger, Jane and Dick Baxter, and Mary Bullis; sisters Liz Zink and Helen Schnabel; brother J. Woodrow Beard; brother-in-law Jay Zink; eleven grandchildren Robert (Dori) Rominger, Randy (Katy) Rominger, Nancy Rominger, Crystabell (Rick) Trucksess, Beth Baxter, Jo (Travis) Green, Richard (Ann) Baxter, Jr., Katie Downing, Mike Bullis, Karen (Danny) Beers, Susan (Jeff) Gots-chewski; nine great-children Joseph (Christina) Davis, Jack Downing, Max Downing, Annalisa (Tyler) Fisher, Miesha (Jason) Morgret, Ryan Rominger, and Alexis and Samantha Gotschewski; and one great-great grandchild Jared Morgret; and numerous relatives and extended family.
   In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Blanche K. Werner Library, PO Box 1168, Trinity, TX or First United Methodist Church, PO Box 31, Trinity TX 75862.

MARY ETTA MANGUM-KUTCH
   Mary Etta Mangum-Kutch was born at Friday, Texas on August 1, 1932 to Mildredge and Etta Mangum, and graduated from Groveton High school in 1948.  She died Tuesday March 31, 2009 after a prolonged illness.  She was a good and loving wife and stepmother to her husband Ron's children.
   She was a 1948 graduate of Groveton High School and Life Member #308 of the Groveton Ex-Students Association.
  Her three older brothers, Edwin, Bill, and Tommy Mangum; and son Randy Kutch preceded Mary in death.
   Survivors include her husband
Ronald Kutch Sr., of Melissa, Texas; son Ronald Kutch Jr. and wife Betsy, of Little Elm, Texas; daughter Alberta Kutch,  of McKinney, Texas; son Douglas Kutch and wife Melissa of Mississippi; daughter Annette Jones and husband Mike of Lake Dallas, Texas; son Ralph Kutch of California; daughter Vickey Becker of Melissa, Texas; grandchildren Melissa Badr of Forth Worth, Texas, Ben Becker of Melissa, Texas, Jason Kutch of Mississippi, Haley Jones of Lake Dallas, Texas; Jacob Kutch of Mississippi, and Jessica Kutch of Mississippi.
    Mrs. Kutch requested cremation, and there will be no memorial service. Her remains will be taken to the Mangum family burial plot in Groveton.

KATELYNE PAIGE BELL
   Graveside service for Katelyne Paige Bell, 6, of Trinity was held Tuesday April 7, 2009 at 10:00am at Trinity Cedar Grove Cemetery with Rev. Jim Golden officiating. Interment followed in Trinity Cedar Grove Cemetery.
   Katelyne was born July 20, 2002 in Huntsville, Texas and passed away Wednesday April 1, 2009 in Houston County.
  Katelyne was a student of the kindergarten class at Lansberry Elementary School. She was a precious gift from God and is now in his arms eternally. 
  Survivors include her mother and stepfather Sherry Bell and David Reed; sisters Marissa Bell and Skyler Rowe; grand-parents Kitty and Raymond Bell; aunt Mandy and Arthur Bryant; and Uncle Raymond and Tiffany Bell.

CHRISTINE LEE HART HARRAH
   A graveside celebration service for Christine Lee Hart Harrah, 55, of Cleveland was held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 2:00pm with Rev. Leroy Brown officiating. Interment followed in Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska, Texas.
   Mrs. Harrah was born in Houston, Texas on August 9, 1953 and her passing was a beautiful occasion Friday April 3, 2009 when God came and took her with him to the land of no more pain and eternal life.  Christine was a graduate of Sharpstown High School of Houston, Class of 1971. She was a truck driver for McKenzie Tank Lines for many years. She was employed with Blackburn Marine for many years also. She was a long-time resident Canal City of Gilchrist, Texas and served on the Homeowners Association. She enjoyed fishing, sailing, sewing making crafts for her friends, and she was a great cook. 
  Christine was preceded in death by her father James Richard Cheek II; mother Jane Ellen Kuhleman; son Brandon Hart; brother Daniel Cheek; nephews Billy Gibbons and Jimmy Melenyzer; and mother-in-law Mary Jo Harrah.
   Survivors include her devoted husband of 29 years Christopher Harrah; sisters; Katherine Diane Moorhouse and husband Mike, Paulette Thompson and husband John, Pam McAloon; first husband Norman Hart; daughter-in-law Jacqueline Hart; grandchildren Andrea, Joseph, Alexandra, Abigail Christine, James, and Jake; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

JAKE JACKSON
   Funeral service for Jake Jackson was held Wednesday April 8, 2009 at 1:00pm at Waller-Thornton Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy Brown officiating. Interment followed in Brookside cemetery of Houston.
  Jack was born in Pruden, Kentucky on April 1, 1944, his parents were Arthur Carr and Cloeva Jackson, and passed away Sunday April 5, 2009 in Houston, Texas. 
   Jack began a career in the United States Navy in 1967. Over a period of twelve years he served five tours in Vietnam on the USS Sellers Ship, where he was the boiler man. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1975. He was employed at Westwood Shores Property Owners Association as an electrician, while living in Trinity. Shortly after the death of his beloved wife Gloria, Jack moved to Cold Springs to be near his family. Jack was a fun loving person, he was born on April Fools Day and he had an extraordinary since of humor.
  Jack is preceded in death by his wife Gloria Jackson; parents; brothers Wendell Jackson and Ralph Edward Jackson; and sister Linda Lee Jackson.
  Survivors include his  brother Leland Jackson and wife Wilma of Bellville, Ill; sisters Oma “Nita” Knouse of Cold Springs, Lila Jackson of Jackson, MO, Virginia Easterday and husband Phillip of Knoxville, Tenn;  Step-children Roger Allan Stepanski, Lorna Anne Murphy and husband William, Pamela Kaye Richburg; numerous step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.
