Funeral services for Bro. Robbie Bailey, 79, of Groveton, Texas were held Wednesday at 2:00pm at the Groveton First Baptist Church with Bros. Lewis Jones, Horace Fletcher, and David Horace officiating. Private interment followed at Boontown Cemetery.
Robbie Bailey was born in Westville, Texas on April 29, 1928 to David Conrad and Atmo Ellis Bailey and passed away at his residence on Sunday February 24, 2008 at the age of 79 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean War. He was currently serving as the Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church, Groveton. He had pastured at the Josserand Baptist Church for 23 ½ years, 2 years at the Missionary Baptist Church in Lufkin, 4 years at the Friday Baptist Church and as Music Minister at the First Baptist Church for 5 years. He was a member of several singing groups including the Footlighters and Friends, Southern Praise, and One Way. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years Betty Thorne Bailey; daughters and sons in law Debbie and Sammy Wilson of Groveton, Holly and Danny Gilbert of Groveton, and LuAnn and Lowell Fortenberry of Wimberly, Texas; grand-daughter Trilby Fortenberry; grandsons Robbie David Wilson, Brad Wilson and wife Amie, Lodin Fortenberry, Chris Gilbert, and Casey Gilbert; great granddaughters Peyton Ordaz and Mercedes Wilson; great grandson Gunner Wilson; sister and brother in law Odessa and Emmett Bailey of Lufkin, Texas; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Brad Wilson, Robbie David Wilson, Glenn Ringo, Gerald Fails, Dan Dominey, and Calvin Kersh. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Class of ’47.
