  Funeral services for Thomas Aubrey “T. A” Franklin was held on Thursday December 27, 2007 at 11:00am at Dorcas Wills Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Burden and Rev. Leroy Brown officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
    Mr. Franklin was born October 11, 1913 in Houston County Texas and passed away on Saturday December 22, 2007 in Huntsville, Texas. He served in the US Marines, was rancher,
was involved with the Trinity 4-H Horse Club, elected and served a term as Justice of The Peace, precinct # 3, was a pioneer of Rural Water, he was involved  in the membership of Trinity Rural Water, was a member of Dorcas Wills Memorial Baptist Church, was a lifetime member of VFW,  and Disabled Veterans  Association
  He is preceded in death by his parents Zack and Lula Tiner Franklin; and sisters Alpha Harvey and Gordie Mae Havard.
  Survivors include his wife of 55 years Mary Franklin; children Bobby Franklin, Billie Renfro and husband Sonny, Garry Franklin and wife Robbie, and Deborah Watson; grandchildren Theresa, Larry, Robert, Ryan and wife Ashley, Charles and wife Kathy, Lenzy, and Clinton; great grandchildren
Brianna, John, and Kiley; sister Verda Doop; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

  Funeral services for Pastor Raymond Roscoe Rice, of Trinity were held on Wednesday December 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Dorcas Wills Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Burden officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Cemetery.
   Raymond was born June 5, 1922 in Yoakum, Texas and passed away Sunday December 23, 2007 in Trinity, Texas. He served his country during WWII as a motorcycle message carrier.
Raymond was one of the pioneers of the pipeline, he traveled to many places during his work with the pipeline until 1938, and He was employed as a superintendent at Houston Contracting Company for more than 20 years. Raymond retired in 1971 to Trinity and he became a rancher and a cowboy.
He moved back to Galveston in 1975 and was ordained as a minister. Raymond has worn many hats during his life time and he remained a preacher for the last ten years. He was a member of Joe Werner Masonic Lodge #556 and also a member of Shriners. He was a faithful member of Dorcas Wills Memorial Baptist Church.
   He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Jefferson and Elma Dean Rice; brother Thomas Larry Rice; half brother and sisters Alvin, Laverne, and Jewel.
   Survivors include his wife of 60 years Helen Marie Rice; children Raymond Roscoe Rice, and wife Judy, Betty Henry, Denise Hannusch and husband Donnie, and Raymond Paul Rice and wife Peggy; grandchildren, Richard Ray-mond Rice and wife Kelli, Bryn Henry and wife Sarah, James Fruge and wife Michelle, Melanie Jones and husband Steven, Olivia Rice, and Emily Rice; great grandchildren: Ryan, Rusty, Dixie, Brooke, Kaitlyn, Garrett, Colleen, Colton, Cody,
Hayden, and Lainey; and many nieces, great nieces and other friends.

   A graveside service for Shelia Rena Kenner Edwards, of Livingston was held on Monday December 10, 2007 at 11:00 am at Center Grove Cemetery with Rev. Alglee Kilgore officiating.
   Sheila was born June 24, 1960 in Livingston, Texas and passed away Saturday December 8, 2007 in Livingston, Texas. She was a graduate of Channelview
High School, was a homemaker and a mother all her adult life.
    She is preceded in death by Father Billy Kenner, sister Marshella Kenner, nephew, and Eric Paul Brast.
  Survivor include her daughter Tiffany Kenner; mother Thelma Parker Hopson; step-mother  Linda Kenner; brother Edward Kenner; sisters Teresa Tarver and Suzan Daugherty; and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.

    Graveside funeral services for Buddy Smith, Jr., 58, of Groveton were held Thursday January 3, 2008 at 4:00pm at Glenwood Cemetery with Bros. Lewis Jones and Don Hill officiating, burial followed.
     Buddy was born September 2, 1949 in Overton, Texas and passed away Sunday December 30, 2007 in Groveton.  He was affiliated with the Methodist church, was a Public School Band Director, Professional Jazz Musician, taught at Angelina College, worked at Houston ISD and Groveton ISD.
   Pallbearers were Phillip Bennett, Reginald Bowers, Curtis McCloud, Glen Ward, Buddy Reynolds, and Ron Lankford.
   Survivors include his wife Dona Griswold Smith of Groveton; sons Buddy Smith III and Dennis J. Smith both of Groveton; step-son and wife Daniel Lee and Jillian Sherrouse of Brenham, Texas; sister Teresa Smith Lee of Seattle, Washington; nephew David Spikes Lee of Seattle, Washington; and numerous other relatives and friends.

    Funeral services for Roland Vernon Carswell, 87, of Lufkin, Texas were held Saturday January 5, 2008 at 10:00 am in the Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. James Whittlesey officiating.  Interment followed at 12:00 noon at Knight Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas.
   Mr. Carswell was born March 13, 1920 in Pollock, Texas and passed away Monday December 31, 2007 in Houston, Texas.
   He was a Baptist and a retired heavy equipment operator for Brown & Root
   He is proceeded in death by his parents John and Betty Carswell; daughter Brenda Carswell; twin sons Olan and Noland Carswell, and ex--wife Robbie Tullos.
   Pallbearers were Mike Lee, Terry Lee, David Spence, bubba Spence, Lanis Hitt, and Curtis Morris.  Honorary pallbearer was Donis Tullos.  
   Survivors include his children Larry Carswell, Thomas Carswell, Steve Carswell, and Linda Spence, all of Apple
Springs; sister Betty Roddam of Lufkin; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

   Funeral services for Arlene M. Drake, 78, of Lufkin were held Friday, January 4, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in the Calvary Chapel Full Gospel Church with Pastor Dwyan Calvert and Pastor Al Ross officiating. Interment followed in the East Prairie/Possum Walk Cemetery in Trinity County.
   Mrs. Drake was born December 8, 1929 in Burke, Texas, to Pearl (Butler) and Alex Maddoux, and died Sunday, December 30, 2007 at her residence.
   Mrs. Drake had resided in Angelina County for 26 years and was a Master Tax Consultant with H&R Block for 40 years. Mrs. Drake was a member of the Calvary Chapel Full Gospel Church. She loved her family, friends and co-workers, but most of all and always first - she loved Jesus.
   The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all those who made her final days on this earth so joyful and peaceful.
    Survivors include her son, David Drake of Lufkin; daughters, Brenda Drake of Lufkin and Susie Shepherd of Arizona; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Mike Umholtz of Humble; grandchildren, Dawn, Will, Dustin, Molly, Michael, Carrie, Matthew, Jesse, Amanda, Michael, Amber and Cody Michael; great-grandchildren, Corey, Miranda, Mikayla, Hayden, Maddox, Mikey, Meghan and Alex; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Faye Maddoux of Lufkin; sister, Cina Clark of Nacogdoches; and a number of nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mack Drake; son, Michael Otis Drake; brother, Robert Maddoux; brother-in-law, Kenneth Clark; and nephews, Roy Maddoux and John Maddoux.
    Pallbearers were Jonathan Goodwin, David Drake, Michael Umholtz II, Matthew Umholtz, Dustin Shepherd, Will Kepler and Nathaniel Stanaland.
   Honorary pallbearers were Cody Michael Drake, Kevin Negrete, Willie Fowler and Adam Rains.

    Funeral Mass for Charles James Christel, Sr. was held on Monday, December 31, 2007 at 10:00 a. m.  at St. Edwards Catholic Church. Burial followed in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
   Mr. Christel was born March 12, 1931 in Valders, Wis.and passed away Tuesday December 25, 2007 in Trinity, Texas.
  He is preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Minnie Christel; wife Carol Mary Christel; daughter Cheryl Meadors; brothers John and Bob Christel.
  Survivors include her children C. J.    Mrs. Evans was born in Loveland, Colorado on September 16, 1961 and passed away peacefully in Conroe, Texas on Friday December 21, 2007.

  He is preceded in death by his parents Fletcher Morris and Martha Farris; and son Ronald Farris.

  Mrs. Saxon was born September 2, 1936 in Hunts-ville, Texas and passed away Friday December 21, 2007 in Trinity, Texas.
  She is preceded in death by her
parents Charlie and Nora Allen Maxey; baby girl Saxon; and sister: Louis Arthurholt.
    Survivors include her husband of 52 years Lee Tracy Saxon; children Linda Clark, Michael Eugene Saxon, Judy Diane and Mike Wiggins, Charles David and Kay Saxon; and James Edward and Megan Saxon; grandchildren Diana Farris, Dustin Saxon, Hannah Saxon, Meredith and Amos Bolton, William and Katherine Burch, Aaron and Charity Burch, Kelly and T.    Funeral services for Mrs. Valerie Jean Lowrie, 78, were held Friday, January 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Smith officiating.  Interment followed in the Pennington Cemetery.
   Mrs. Lowrie was born October 31, 1929 in Houston, Texas and passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at her daughter’s residence.  She grew up in Pennington. In 1991, she moved back to Pennington and had lived there until 2005 when she moved to Deer Park. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Mrs. Lowrie was retired from the Civil Service where she had held many positions and was a member of the Flat Prairie Congregational Methodist Church. 
   She is preceded in death by husband Vernon Lowrie; mother Mae Elizabeth Dominy Miller; step-father Vernon Miller; and sister Billie Faye Kennedy Greer.
   Survivors include her children
Valeriane Mounce and husband David of Deer Park, Robert Miles Lowrie and wife Angie of Lovettsville, Virginia and Lynn Edward Lowrie and wife Ida of Marietta, Georgia; grand-children Ashley, David, Brittany, Travis, Jared, Samantha, J. D., Heather, Madison, Mason, and Oren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

   Frieda Reese Gaskin was born in Groveton, Trinity County, Texas on January 12, 1914, the daughter of William Robert Reese and Rose Ellen Holley Reese.  She passed away on January 6, 2008; six days shy of her 94th birthday.
   She graduated from Groveton High School in 1931 and attended Mary Hardin-Baylor and Sam Houston State University.  She then attended Business College in Beaumont, Texas and went to work at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.  She later met her husband Paul H. Gaskin, Sr. who was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base.  They married on July 21, 1941.
   She worked at Central Power & Light in San Benito, Texas and Corpus Christi, Texas from 1954 until her retirement in 1978.
    She was an active member of the Groveton Ex-Students’ Association and was instru-mental in establishing the Reese Family Scholarship Fund.  She was also a member of Fair Haven Methodist Church.
    Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Thetis Holley Reese; and five brothers, Robert, Owen, Turner, James and William Reese. 
    She is survived by her brother Earle Bayne Reese of Downey, CA. She is also survived by her husband of 66 and one-half years, Paul H. Gaskin, Sr. and their son, Paul H. Gaskin, Jr., his wife Patricia and their son Michael; her daughter Kathryn Gaskin Raia and her husband Luke; their sons Mark and his wife Glenda and Ben and his fiancée Marianna.  She had one great-granddaughter Alexandria. 
A memorial service was held at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 7:00 PM    Graveside services was held at Glenwood Cemetery, Groveton, Texas on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at 1:00 PM.
