   Funeral services for Jimmie E. Conner, 80, of Lacy, Texas were held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 11:00am at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Lacy, Texas with Rev. Precious Gibson officiating. Interment followed in the Lacy Cemetery.

   Mr. Conner was born December 4, 1927 in Colmesneil, Texas and passed away Saturday July 12, 2008 in Houston, Texas. He was affiliated with the Greater New Hope Baptist Church, a member of the Groveton Male Chorus, President of the Usher board at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, served with the United States Air Force, and retired from American Airlines.

    Pallbearers were his grand-sons.

  He was preceded in death by his wife Ozella Conner in 1997 and son Jimmie E. Conner.

   Survivors include his children Johnny Conner of Las Vega, Nevada, Larry Conner of Atlanta, Georgia, Eugene Conner of St. Louis, Missouri, Felicia Lloyd of Wells, Texas, Shirlonda Conner of Lufkin, Texas, and Janice Conner of Nacogdoches, Texas; sisters Claudie Mae Conner Owens of Lufkin, Texas and Lucy B. Spikes of Oakland, California; brothers Carl Conner of Richmond, Texas and Ernest Conner of San Francisco, California; twenty grand-children; 23 great grand-children; and numerous other relatives and friends.

   Memorials may be made to Greater New Hope Baptist Church Usher Board.

Groveton Funeral Home

A memorial funeral service for Margaret Stewart, 76, of Trinity, Texas was held Saturday July 19, 2008 at 1:00pm at Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Jones officiating.

Mrs. Stewart was born September 13, 1931 and passed away Wednesday July 26, 2008 in Conroe, Texas. She was affiliated with the Calallen Baptist Church and Beta Sigma Phi.

She was preceded in death by her son Steve Laird.

Survivors include her husband James “Jimmy” Stewart of Trinity; children James Laird of Doss, Texas, Sheila Hinchee of Spring, Texas, Tim Stewart of Trinity, Patricia Daniels, and James Stewart III; grandchildren Jason Ray  Laird, Andy James Laird, Stan James Laird, and Chad Everett Stewart; and numerous other relatives and friends.

    Funeral services for Gerald Monroe Ward, 71, of Trinity were held Tuesday July 22, 2008 at 11:00am at Dorcas Wills Memorial Baptist Church with Rev.  Mike Loftin and Rev. Jason Burden officiating.  Interment followed in the Walker Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas with Military Honors.

    Mr. Ward was born in Angelina County on September 16, 1936 to Monroe and Elsie McKinney Ward and passed away peacefully in Crockett, Texas on July 19, 2008.

   Gerald was a graduate of Lufkin High School. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and the US Air Force.   Gerald has had a love for cars all his adult life, he worked for Ainsworth Ford, owned and operated a used car business and he was the owner/operator of A-1 Wrecking Business for more than 29 years. Gerald was with the Trinity Volunteer Fire Department for over 10 years. He is an active member of Corrigan VFW Post 6521 and the Trinity Lions Club. Gerald was a businessman, family man and a man that loved to help someone in need. He was involved in civic groups and never wanted to be recognized for his help in giving. Gerald was a strong believer in that it is better to give than to receive and he will never be forgotten for his generosity.

   His father Monroe Ward and a son David Ward precede Gerald in death.

   Survivors include  his devoted and loving wife of 47 years Ouida Ward; children Denise Boyd, Patrick Ward, Jerolyn Ward, Diedre Ward; grand-children Deacon Brooks, Shanna Ward, Misty Woytek and husband Wesley, Shamon Gustafson and wife Paula, Shera Boyd, Hannah Ward, Shawn Ward, and Stephanie Ward; great grandchildren “Little Angels” Andrew, Valarie, Tristyn; mother Elsie McKinney; brothers Paul Wayne Ward and Jonny Mac Ward and wife Velda; step- brother Jeffery Ward; step-sister Darla Kay Ward; and step-son Billye Kessinger.    .

   Funeral services for Owen L. Bergman, 85, of Groveton, Texas were held Friday July 18, 2008 at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Bagley and Rev. Lewis Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Glenwood Cemetery.

   Mr. Bergman was born to Owen and Lehma Evans Bergman December 15, 1922 in a log house in Polk County, Texas and passed away Tuesday July 15, 2008.  He grew up in Groveton and graduated from Groveton High School. After graduation he attended Texas A&M University until the outbreak of World War II; when he enlisted in the Naval Aviation Program. His outstanding performance in flight led to his selection for service as a Marine Aviator.  After the war he attended the University of Texas in Austin and began his career with Texaco, but he returned to service during the Korean Conflict.  When he ended his service he had earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his career in the oil business he worked for Texaco and Sinclair covering several southern states for their tax department, eventually heading his own independent oil exploration company.  He retired to Groveton, Texas.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Vernon, Joe Frank, and Billy; and grandson Ryan Fitzpatrick Kennedy.

  Pallbearers were Joe Scoot Evans, Mark Evans, Joe Lin Evans, Stephen Evans, David Evans, and Iverson Evans.

   Survivors include his wife Janis Chandler Bergman; daughter Holly Crane and husband Frank; sons Clay and Rush Bergman; step son Bill Woodburn and wife Marie; Joan and Richard Hoaglin; sister Natalie Johnson; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
