Funeral services for Opal Standley, 97, were held at 1p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Neil Kemper officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Trinity County.
Mrs. Standley was born September 27, 1911 in Trinity County, Texas, the daughter of the late Allie (Warren) and Cole Young and passed away Monday February 23, 2009 in a Lufkin hospital. Mrs. Standley was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, canning and loved reading recipe books. She always kept her sewing machine with her. She started, owned and operated an egg farm business, which grew to include 60,000 hens. Mrs. Standley was a member of Primitive Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Cole Standley, Stephen Rhoades, Marvin Moos, Brad Thomas, Larry Turner, and Mark Standley.
Mrs. Standley was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years W.M. Standley in 2004; sons Oliver and Roland Standley; and sisters Lora Bell Overstreet and Gladys Collins.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Coleman and Linda Standley of Hudson; grandchildren Debra Sovil of San Antonio, Janet Moos of Houston, Cole Standley of Houston, Amy Rhoades of Lufkin, Mark Standley of Houston, and SueAnna Thomas of Dripping Springs; 8 great-grandchildren; brother Frank Norris Young of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; sisters Marie McFarland of Livingston, Murlene Davis of Lufkin, Cora Faye Hines of San Antonio, and Vermon Kenley; special nephew Billy Mac Collins; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends
