Groveton News - November 23, 2008 - November 30, 2008

   Funeral services for Robert Chester Nichols, 82, of Pennington were held Friday November 21, 2008 at 11:00am in the Hwy. 287 Church of Christ in Groveton with Bro. Don Willis officiating.  Inter-ment followed in the Pen-nington Cemetery.
   Mr. Nichols was born June 14, 1926 in Crockett and passed away Tuesday November 18, 2008 in Crockett. He was a retired Glazier and affiliated with the Hwy 287 Church of Christ.
   Pallbearers were Jared Nichols, Seth Nichols, Shane Nichols, Stephen Thompson, Jesse Alexander, and Dalton Kindler.
  He was preceded in death by his parents Earl Lionel Nichols and Ola May Stutts; two brothers; 3 sisters; and one great grandchild.
   Survivors include his wife Thelma Lois Nichols of Pennington; daughter Gloria Cook and husband Bobby; sons Wayne Nichols and wife Sherry, and Gary Nichols and wife Vivian; sis grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

   Graveside funeral services for Jerry Glen Wars, 46, of Jasper, Texas formerly of Groveton, Texas were held at 11:00am on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Manning Cemetery with Bro. Calvin Kersh officiating.
Mr. Wars was born November 21, 1961 in Trinity and passed away Tuesday November 18, 2008 in Jasper, Texas. He was affiliated with Josserand Baptist Church and was a disabled logging contractor.
 His father Bryant Wars preceded him in death.
Survivors include son Jace Wars; daughters Rainey and Skyla Wars; mother Garvis Nell Wars; brother Danny Wars; sister Linda McClain and husband Benny; nieces and nephews Christi Coleman and husband Craig, Jarod Wars, Marty McClain and wife Shanna, Michael McClain, and Marla McClain; great nieces and nephew Carliece and Campbell Coleman, Hannah McClain; and numerous other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Lighthouse by Tennessee Gentlemen.

      Funeral services for Steve Randle Carswell, 59, of Houston, Texas formerly of Apple Springs were held Saturday November 22, 2008 at 11:00am in the Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Livingston officiating.
  Mr. Carswell was born October 29, 1949 in Apple Springs, Texas and passed away Friday November 14, 2008 in Houston, Texas.
   Pallbearers will be Bubba Spence, D. J. Spence, Donnis Tullos, Jesse Tillman, Billy Ray Tullos, and Curtis Morris.
   He was preceded in death by his parents Robbie Tullos and Roland Carswell; sister Brenda Carswell; and great nephew Christian Spence.
   Survivors include his wife Joy Carswell of Houston; son Jesse Carswell of Apple Spring; sister and brother in law Linda and David Spence of Apple Springs; brother and sister in law Larry and Gloria Carswell of Apple Springs; brother Thomas Carswell of Apple Springs; and numerous other relatives and friends.

  The family will have a private memorial service later for Odell Edmunson Powell, 76 of Trinity.
   Odell was born on April 7, 1932 in Union City, Tennessee and passed away on Friday, November 14, 2008 in the VA Hospital of Houston.  He was a Commercial Fisherman. Odell was formerly of Michigan where he retired from a Taxi Cab Driver position after many years of driving. He moved to Trinity eleven years ago and has been in the care of his nephew. Odell enjoyed his retirement fishing on the lake and he had a great since of humor. 
    Survivor include his nephew Greg Linn and wife Gina of Trinity; brothers and sisters

Spencer Powell, Gene Powell, Betty Ann Powell and Becky Powell all of Michigan; and all his good friends from Deer Run. 
Waller-Thornton Funeral Home

   Funeral services for George Leroy “Zeekie” Dunaway were held on Monday, November 24, 2008 at 11:00am at Waller-Thornton Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Martin, Rev. Gerald Reeves and Rev. D.R. McNaughton. Burial followed in Glendale Cemetery.
   Zeekie was born on May 28, 1929 in Carlisle, Texas and passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 in Trinity, Texas.
   For nine years, Zeekie worked for Southland Paper Company. He loved to go to the gospel singings and play his guitar and sing. Zeekie was a hard worker most his life he enjoyed mowing lawns and keeping up ceme-teries. He enjoyed making new friends and he never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by seven sisters, Thelma Gentry, Lola Barnett, Lorene Mitchell, Armethia Keen, Lois Tullos, Irene Dixon, and Maedell Massey.
   Survivors include his daughters Sharon Schmidt and husband Donald, and Margaret Ruth Gardner and husband John; son Paul; three grand-children and nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his caregiver and friend Rosemary Fisher.
