JANICE ANN SMITH
   Funeral service for Janice Ann Smith was held on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 1:30 PM at Mexia High School Auditorium and Monday, November 3, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Prairie View Methodist Church of Nogalus Prairie with Rev. Don Hoxworth, Rev. Sonny Sneed, and Rev. Ben Bagley officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
   Janice Ann Smith, age 56, a resident of Mexia, Texas passed away at her home with her family at her side on Friday, October 31, 2008 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Janice was born November 18, 1951 in Crockett, Texas, the daughter of Minnie Ola and Elmer Smith.
   Janice was a graduate of Centerville High School in Groveton; she attended Stephen F. Austin State University and received her bachelors and masters degree from Sam Houston State University. For the past 25 years she has served as an educator in New Caney, Trinity, Groesbeck and Mexia, Texas. She was respected and admired by both faculty and students and each of the district in which she served.
 She was predeceased by her father Elmer Smith and brother Wayne Edward:
  Survivors include her devoted husband Bobby Hill; daughters Shannan Rolfsen and husband Chris Rolfsen of Austin, Texas, Heather Joslin of Conroe, Texas, and Becky Hill of Weatherford, Texas; her mother Minnie Ola Smith of Groveton, Texas; sister Geniece Rice and husband Dr. Tom Rice of Trinity, Texas; brother Dr. Kenneth Smith and wife Sue Smith of Monticello, Arkansas; nephew, Todd Smith and wife Jolie Sikes-Smith; nieces Tonja Rice and Leah Butler and husband Brian Butler, great-nephews, Cash Baker Smith, and Thomas Jessie Butler; and numerous cousins and friends.

MOLLY MAE DURDIN
  Funeral services for Molly Mae Durdin were held Saturday November 1, 2008 at 2:00pm at Waller-Thornton Funeral Home with Rev. Bonner Magness, Rev. Randy Lowe and Rev. Guy Hargrave officiating. Burial followed in Clapp Cemetery.
    Mrs. Durdin was 79 years old when the Lord called her home on Thursday October 30, 2008 at her residence. Molly was born in Walker County Texas on October 23, 1929; her parents were Robert Ross and Lula Mae Richey. 
   She has been a member of the Eastern Star # 186 for more than fifty years. She was a strong Christian lady and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Molly was a retired business woman and nurse. She moved to Trinity, Texas in 1977 and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. 
   She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Robert Richey and wife Doris; and sister Virginia Gardner.
   Survivors include her husband of 60 years Joe Edward Durdin; sons James Robert Durdin and Ronald Edward Durdin and wife Barbara; grandchildren Shane Edward Durdin, Katy Durdin, Emily Durdin, Jody Durdin, and Richard “Shane” Appleman; great grandchildren: Colby and Hunter Durdin, Landon and Ashlynn Durdin and Kandice and Lani Appleman; sisters Louise Gill and husband Nolan, Alma Hollywood and Vance, Beverly Knight and husband Billy; and numerous other relatives.

BURL WHITE
   Funeral services for Burl White, 84, of Apple Springs were held Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. in the Apple Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Horace Fletcher and Reverend Lindsey Nimmons officiating. Masonic graveside services followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery under the auspices of the Eastern Star Lodge #284 A.F. & A.M.
   Mr. White was born July 5, 1924 in Apple Springs, Texas to the late Lillie Mae (Cook) and John Edgar White, and died Monday, November 3, 2008 in a Lufkin hospital.
   Mr. White was a lifetime resident of Apple Springs. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was an ironworker with Local Union 135 in Texas City. Mr. White was a 32nd degree mason in the Eastern Star Lodge #284 A.F. & A.M. in Groveton, and was a deacon at Apple Springs Baptist Church. He loved to fish and work in his garden.
  Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Peggy White of Apple Springs; son, Earl White of Canyon Lake; son and daughter-in-law, James and Jeannette White of Montgomery; grandchildren, Jason White and wife Amy, Patrick Jones and Tammy Mittelestedt, all of Montgomery; great-grand-child-ren, Mason White and Mackenzie White; foster son, James Larry Brister of Iola; and numerous nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Horace Davis, Paul White, Brian White, Keith White, Richard Spring, and Russell Tullos.
   Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Jones and Larry White.
  Memorial contributions may be made to Apple Springs Baptist Church, P.O. Box 22, Apple Springs, Texas 75926.

ETHEL LEE JONES
   Graveside service for Ethel Lee Jones was held Thursday November 13, 2008 at 11:30am at Houston National Cemetery of Houston.
    Ms. Jones was born on July 19, 1923 in San Antonio, Texas and died Friday November 7, 2008 in Crockett, Texas. She was a long time employee with Sears and Roebuck she was with them for more than 20 years, and then worked for the Mrs. Baird’s Bread Company of Houston where she retired from Mrs. Baird’s after 20 years of service.
   She was preceded in death by father and mother Walter and Alemeda Givens; husband Rayford M. Jones; and son James H. Treesk.
   Survivors include her Daughter, Susan Rush and husband John; son Jason Jones and wife Angie; daughter, Sandra Fisher; three grandchildren Cameryn Jones, Tim Fisher and Kevin Fisher; five great grandchildren; and  numerous  other relatives and friends.
