Funeral service for Lucille Byrd Dean was held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 in New Cedron Baptist Church with Rev. David Lloyd officiating. Burial was in New Cedron Cemetery at Vowells Mill, Louisiana under the directions of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Mrs. Dean, 85, of Coldspring, Texas, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Cleveland, Texas. She was a native of Vowells Mill, LA. She was a retired elementary school teacher for Pasadena School District in Pasadena, TX. She was a member of New Cedron Baptist Church at Vowells Mill, LA. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Ralph Dean; parents, George Washington Byrd and Arva Zena Knippers Byrd; one brother, Grover E. Byrd.
She is survived by three sons, Gary Dean and wife Glenda of Shepherd, TX, Richard Dean and wife Leslie of Beaumont, TX, and Keith Dean and wife Kem of Spring Hill, TN; four grandchildren, Brent Dean and wife Jennifer of Shepherd, TX, Jennifer Mestayer and husband Scott of Cypress, TX, Jared Dean of Durham, NC, and Kellie Dean of Spring Hill, TN; three great grandchildren, Amelia Dean, Jacob Dean, and Drew Mestayer; one sister, Linda Lou Byrd of Shreveport, LA.
Pallbearers were Brent Dean, Jared Dean, Scott Mesatyer, Michael Williams, Gary Dean, Keith Dean, and Rick Dean.
Alvin Haley Gibbs, 74, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Monday, January 28, 2008. He was born in Willis, Texas on June 1, 1933 to Arthur Boyd and Hazel Yawn who preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughters, Lilly Dowden, Mary Dobson; sons, Alvin Ray Gibbs, Kenneth Wayne Gibbs, Gary Wayne Gibbs, David Wayne Gibbs; sister, Rebecca Jezek; grandchildren, Wanda Burns, Sonny Dobson, Patricia Dobson, Timothy Dobson, Johnny Dobson, Michael Gibbs, Matthew Gibbs, Christina Gibbs, Amanda Poul, Joshua Martin, Misty Martin, Jessica Gibbs, Lew Lane, Jr., Mark Lane, Nick Newhouse, Amy Lane and numerous great-grandchildren; nephews, John Jr., Clifton, William, Richard, Archie; nieces Barbara, Bonnie, Beverly; granddaughters-in-law, Michelle Dobson and Lois Dobson; sons-in-law, Frank Dowden, Ernest Dobson, daughters-in-law, Debra Sue Gibbs, Melissa Gibbs, Debbie D. Gibbs and many other cherished family members and friends.
Graveside services were held Thursday, January 31, 2008, 10 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens, Cleveland, Texas.
Vivian Lovell Gothard, 78, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Friday, February 1, 2008. She was born in Winsbourgh, LA. on August 28, 1929. She is preceded in death by her husband, O.W. Gothard, Sr. granddaughter, Kayti Gothard, brother, Jack Saucier; survivors include her sons, Thomas L. Gothard, O.W. Gothard,Jr. and wife, Sharon, Danny Gothard; grandchildren, Dexter Gothard, Danny Gothard, David Gothard and Michelle Gothard; nephew, Curtis; nieces, Carolyn and Linda Gayle; numerous other loving family members and caring friends. Graveside services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2008, interment at Holly Grove Cemetery Segno, Texas.
Dorothy Ann Messick, 74, of Coldspring, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 18, 1933 to James Ernest and Marguratta Pennington who preceded her in death along with her son, Joseph Wayne Bauer.
Dorothy had a deep love for horses and their admiration for her was evident. She was an outdoors person, she loved her gardening, sewing, painting, and many crafts. Her time spent with her family was treasured. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, daughters, Debbie Olvera and husband, Cervando of Mexico, Terri Wilson and husband, Steve of Dayton, Texas, Misty Morales and husband, Chris of Angleton, Texas; sons, Harley Messick and wife, Melissa of Streater, Illinois, Kerry Marc Messick of Waco, Texas; twenty-three grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; special friends, Florence, B.J. Watts, Cody Elliot and Larry White.
Graveside services were held 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2008 at Messick Family Cemetery, Coldspring, Texas.
Sue Elizabeth Moore, who would have celebrated her 96th birthday this year passed away peacefully on January 31, 2008. Sue was born in Stephens Creek, Texas on August 5, 1912 to John Ed and Myrtie Hopkins. After graduating from High School, Sue moved to Houston where she met and married her husband of 61 years Robert Moore. Robert and Sue raised five children while living in Houston. Fifty-eight of her ninety-five years were spend taking care of their invalid son “Bubba” who was injured as an infant. After Sue and Robert retired from their furniture business in Houston, they moved to Stephens Creek where they lived on family property.
Her husband, Robert V. Moore, Sr., and her son, Robert V. Moore, Jr. and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Derryberry and Madeline Eyre preceded her in death. Sue is survived by four children, Bonnie Tidwell, Donald Moore and wife, Barbara, Dianna Kelly, and James Moore all in Coldspring, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Robert Jackson, Valerie Walters, Page Sohl, Terrye Siegfried, Darin Moore, Shawn Jackson, Sloane Jackson, Megan Eyre, Seth Moore, Jaime Moore, Haylee Moore, and James Moore. 12 great-grandchildren, Blair Derryberry, Ayla Sohl, Alison Sohl, Eric Siegfried, Ashlye Siegfried, Jarrod Siegfried, Connor Moore, Owen Moore, Ross Jackson, Ryan Jackson, Ethan Eyre and Aidain Eyre; her sister, Bess Harvey, sister-in-law, Ebon Hopkins and brother-in-law, Dr. James Logan; numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 3, 2008, 2:00 p.m., at Paul Horton United Methodist Church, Stephens Creek, Texas with interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Stephens Creek, Texas.
