Kalab Ryan Chane “Wiggie”, at the age of 1-year-old has sadly passed away Friday, March 5, 2010. His home was in Shepherd, Texas, born March 5, 2009 to John and Janet Elaine Chane III. Henry Archie “Buddy” Currie was born on June 5, 1919 to Zach Currie and Mattie Currie (Hillhouse) in San Jacinto C o u n t y , T e x a s . He passed away on M a r c h 15, 2010 in Huntsville, Texas at age 90. H e n r y was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ernest Currie, Edgar Currie, Julian Currie, Ted Currie, Holton Currie and sisters Hester Currie Barnes and Winnie Gannon. Those left to cherish his memory is his sister, Allie Currie May, niece Barbara Smith and husband Wayne, nephew Robert Barnes, niece Bobbie Coburn McCann and husband Joe, Mildred Currie Jackson and husband Bo, and numerous other nieces, nephews and other family members. Henry was an outdoorsman and loved hunting, but the joy of his life was time spent with his loved ones and will be sorely missed by those that knew him. Norman David Rice Jr. age 74 of Shepherd passed away Tuesday February 23, 2010 in Cleveland. Memorial services will be held Saturday February 27, 2010 at 12:00Noon in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston with Rev. Danny Moye officiating. Norman was born October 12, 1935 in Honey Island to parents Norman David Rice Sr. and Verda Mae Lyles Rice. He was a devoted member of the Shepherd Masonic Lodge #866 A.F & A.M as well as the Houston Scottish Rite Body & Arabia Shrine. He is survived by his wife Lora M. Jeffrey “Jeff” Michael Meekins, 34, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010 in Euless. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 19, at St. Rita Catholic Church, Fort Worth, with burial following in Moulton, Texas. Jeff was born Jan. 8, 1976 in Houston. He was an avid Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars fan. He loved attending games and had a passion for traveling with his family and friends and hunting with his father. He was a sales manager with Cellular World in Grapevine and Coppell. Survivors include his parents Adrian Cennamo and husband, Danny, of Shepherd and Jeff Meekins and wife, Trisha of Houston; sister April Ashley of Grand Prairie; grandparents Bill and Mickey Rudolph of Shepherd and Tillie Meekins of Lake Charles, La.; nephews Joshua, Jakob, and Joseph Ashley; step-brothers Billy Cennamo, Damian and Nathan Smith and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Carl Elton Shirley, age 75, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010. He was the youngest child of Homer and Mellie Shirley. He was born in Camilla, Texas. He spent the first years of his life on the Family Farm surrounded by his sister Blanche and brother Morris (Bill), along with his aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family moved to Highlands, Texas, when he was seven, so his father could take a job with Humble Oil. There he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. When his dad retired in the early sixties, they moved to the New H o p e C o m m u - nity in San J a c i n t o C o u n t y . Not long after, Carl built a home on the family land and it was in that home that he raised his family. He was a hard worker and owned several businesses during his life. He moved furniture for Wall Mayflower; he owned dump trucks and moved material all over Texas. He owned Tanglewood Grocery in the 1970’s and was co-founder of Porter Ready-Mix Concrete Co. He owned a dress shop, Shirley’s Fashions in Cleveland. Carl and his Son-In-Law James ran a septic installation service. His sons and grandsons provided the labor on weekends and during the summer. He was instrumental in helping form and operate Mercy Water Corp, and South Cleveland Water systems. He was still an active member of the Mercy Water Board. For over a decade, he served on the Shepherd Independent School District board of trustees where he served as board president for several of those years. He served on the San Jacinto Co. Appraisal District, and as a Grand Juror. He was a big supporter of the area youth through the years, donating his time to the Shepherd FFA, County 4-H program, San Jacinto County Fair, and as a foster parent. Carl was very proud of his family. He supported his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren by attending school plays, sporting events, and livestock shows. We will miss him very much, but we have faith that one day we will see him again.
