Katelyne Paige Bell
TRINITY – Graveside services for Katelyne Paige Bell, 6-year-old daughter Sherry Bell and David Reed were held at 10 a.m. Tuersday, April 7, 2009, at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Trinity with the Rev. Jim Golden officiating.
The child died Wednesday, April 1, in Houston County.
She was born July 20, 2002, in Huntsville and was a kindergarten student at Lansberry Elementary School in Trinity.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Sherry Bell and David Reed; two sisters, Marissa Bell and Skyler Rowe; grandparents, Kitty and Raymond Bell; and aunts and uncles, Mandy and Arthur Bryant and Raymond and Tiffany Bell.
Waller-Thornton Funeral Home of Trinity directed the arrangements.
Bobbie Jean Burke
GROVETON – Services for Bobbie Jean Burke, 66, of Apple Springs were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009, in the Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Lindsey Nimmons officiating.
Burial followed in the Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Burke died Monday, April 13, in Apple Springs.
She was born Sept. 24, 1942 in Houston. Mrs. Burke was a homemaker and a member of the Apple Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth David Burke of Apple Springs; five sons and their spouses, David and Alissa Burke of Hudson, Kenneth M. Burke of Apple Springs, Mark and Debbie Burke of Buchanon, Va., Charles Eugene Burke of Apple Springs and Andy and Julie Burke of Carrolton, Ga.; three daughters, Brenda Burke of Lufkin, Glenda Burke of Apple Springs and Kristina Burke of Pasadena; two sisters and their spouses, Melba and Joe Bolton of Houston and Vanona and Gary Conarroe of Groveton; two brothers and their spouses, Tilton and Lindy Warren of Apple Springs and William and Adrienne Warren of Lufkin; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Calvary Cemetery Association.
Groveton Funeral Home directed the arrangements.
Durley Earl Chandler
HOUSTON – Services for Durley Earl “ Duke” Chandler, 82, of Houston, were held at 12:45 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2009, in the Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home in Houston.
Burial followed at 2:15 p.m. at the Houston National Cemetery.
Mr. Chandler died Wednesday, April 8, 2009.
He was born July 19, 1926 in Caruthersville, MO., the son of Sidney Earl and Alpha Omega Chandler.
At age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and served honorably during the 22 years spanning WWII, the Korean War, and the beginning of the Vietnam War as an aviation structural mechanic on aircraft carriers. He retired from active service in 1965 with the Navy's highest enlisted rank of Chief Petty Officer.
He later owned an industrial supplies business and then retired to Trinity, where he enjoyed making clocks and stained glass lamps.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, LaVerne Chandler; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie and Doug Schultz and Lynne Chandler; a son and his spouse, Michael and Jan Chandler; a sister, Joy Morgan; a brother and his spouse, James and Freeda Chandler; four grandchildren and a spouse, Rachael Schultz, Lauren and Sam Gobin, Miles Chandler and Jordan Chandler; and a great-grandson, Issac Gobin.
Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home of Houston directed the arrangements.
Christine Lee Hart Harrah
TRINITY – Graveside services for Christine Lee Hart Harrah, 55 of Cleveland were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, in the Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska.
Mrs. Harrah died Tuesday, April 3.
She was born Aug. 9, 1953 in Houston and was a 1971 graduate of Sharpstown High School in Houston. Mrs. Hannah was employed as a truck driver for McKenzie Tank Lines for many years.
She was a long-time resident Canal City of Gilchrist and served on the Homeowners Association. She enjoyed fishing, sailing, cooking, making crafts for her friends, sewing and she was a great cook.
Mrs. Hannah was preceded in death by her father, James Richard Cheek II; her mother, Jane Ellen Kuhleman; a son, Brandon Hart; a brother, Daniel Cheek; two nephews, Billy Gibbons and Jimmy Melenyzer, and her mother-in-law, Mary Jo Harrah.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Christopher Harrah; three sisters and their spouses, Katherine Diane and Mike Moorhouse, Paulette and John Thompson and Pam McAloon; her first husband, Norman Hart; a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Hart; grandchildren, Andrea, Joseph, Alexandra, Abigail Christine, James and Jake; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Jack Jackson
TRINITY – Services for Jack Jackson, 65, were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Waller-Thornton Funeral Home in Trinity with the Rev. Leroy Brown officiating.
Burial followed in Brookside Cemetery in Houston.
Mr. Jackson died Sunday, April 5, in Houston.
He was born April 1, 1944, in Pruden, Ky., the son of Arthur Carr and Cloeva Jackson. He began a career in the U.S. Navy in 1967 and over a period of 12 years he served five tours in Vietnam on the USS Sellers where he served as a boilerman. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1975.
Mr. Jackson was employed at Westwood Shores Property Owners Association as an electrician, while living in Trinity.
Shortly after the death of his beloved wife, Gloria, he moved to Cold Springs to be near his family.
Having been born on April Fools Day, he had extraordinary since of humor.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Jackson; his parents; two brothers, Wendell Jackson and Ralph Edward Jackson; and a sister Linda Lee Jackson.
Survivors include three step-children and a spouse, Roger Allan Stepakski, Lorna Anne and William Murphy and Pamela Kaye Richburg; a brother and his spouse, Leland and Wilma Jackson of Bellville, Ill.; three sisters and a brother-in-law. Oma Nita Knouse of Cold Springs, Lila Jackson of Jackson, Mo., and Virginia and Phillip Easterday of Knoxville, Tenn.; numerous step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Otto B. Knippa
TRINITY – Services for Otto B. Knippa, 77, of Lincoln, Texas, were held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Houston.
Burial followed in the Resthaven Cemetery.
Mr. Knippa died Friday, April 3 with his family at his side.
He was born in Lincoln in 1964 and joined the U.S. Navy after completing high school.
He was married to Mabel Loveless in 1964 and the couple lived and worked in Houston until retiring in 1992. Following their retirement, the couple moved to Trinity where he enjoyed golf, fishing, puzzles and reading.
Mr. Knippa was preceded in death by his parents, Bernardt Henry Albert Knippa and Ella Johanna Adelheidt Schroeder Knippa; and two brothers, Alfred and Ernie Knippa.
Survivors include his wife; two sisters and their spouses, Edna and Bob Gloyna of Austin and Marilyn and Lonnie Raschke of Taylor; three brothers, Howard Maxine Knippa of Marble Falls, Leonard and Estelle Knippa of Deer Park, and Kenneth and Sarah Knippa of Beaumont; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Knippa and Louise Genz; and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 111 Sumac Rd, Huntsville, TX or the American Heart Association.
