Joe Flores Gutierrez Jr.
HOUSTON – Services for Joe Flores Gutierrez Jr., 79, were held Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at the Assumption Catholic Church in Houston.
Mr. Gutierrez died Sunday, Sept. 28.
He was born May 13, 1929, and was preceded in death by a son, Santos Gutierrez; and a sister, Minnie Escalon.
Survivors include his wife, Yolanda Gutierrez; a son, George Gutierrez; two daughters and their spouses, Kelly and Chris Rios and Patty and Robert Martinez; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Joseph Gutierrez, Amy and Bryan Bell, Alyssa Gutierrez, Michael Gutierrez, Marivel Marcias, Gabriel Gutierrez, Rebecca Perez and her friend Israel Rodriguez, Lorin Martinez, Robert Martinez and Chris Rios Jr.; a sister, Carmen Sanchez; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Santos Vasquez, Gilbert and Pauline Vasquez and Louis Gutierrez; and two great-grandchildren, Jaydon Bell and Leah Rodriguez.

Leslie “Les” McKenney
BAYTOWN – Graveside services for Leslie “Les” McKenney, 82, of Baytown were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Trinity with the Rev. Haril Walpole officiating.
Mr. McKenney died Thursday, Oct. 2, at his residence.
He was born March 6, 1926, in Smithville, Va., and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a 1949 graduate of Baylor University and worked in the radiology department at Baytown Hospital from 1952 until 1985. Mr. McKenney was an avid photographer, having taken many wedding photos in Baytown over the years.
He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge #1192, and the Baytown Shrine Club and was a former member of the Baytown Jaycees.
Mr. McKenney was preceded in death by his parents, Willis H. and Hellen McKenney; a brother, Willis H. McKenney Jr.; and a grandson, Jonathan Hanna.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Virginia “Jenny” McKenney of Baytown; two daughters and a son-in-law, Leslie Elaine and Joe Meeker and Helen Saxon, all of Dallas; two sons and a daughter-in-law, George Hampton “Hank” McKenney of Baytown and Micah and Donna McKenney of Deer Park; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Lynn Cherry of Paducah, Ky., Jean Lancaster of Houston, and Patricia and Richard Layton of Houston; and six grandchildren and a spouse, Nicolle and Brad Michalsky, Magdalyn McKenney, Bobby Meeker, James Meeker, Morgan Saxon and Natalie McKenney.
Navarre Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Baytown directed the arrangements.

Larry Moxey Pynes
HUNTSVILLE – A Celebration of Life memorial service for Larry Moxey Pynes, 63, of Waterwood will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, in the chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Pynes died peacefully at his residence on Friday, Oct. 3, following a 12-year battle with cancer.
He was born May 10, 1945, in Pittsburg, Texas, the son of Tandy and Jeannette Pynes. After graduating from high school, he attended several years of college before going to work at the Red River Army Depot in New Boston where he was employed for 15 years.
In 1981 he relocated to Trinity and shortly after was named as the vice president of operations at the First National Bank of Trinity, a post he held until 1994.
Mr. Pynes was employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the past 14 years as an Accountant III in the Inmate Trust Fund.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Susie Pynes of Waterwood; a daughter and her spouse, Misty and Robert Roark of Waterwood; a sister, Mona Savage of Ville Platte, La.; a brother and his spouse, Sammy and Earlene Jones of Pittsburg; his mother-in-law, Frances Hussey of Huntsville; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Phillip and Rosie Knight and Billy and Charlsie Knight; two sisters-in-law and their spouses, Betty and Bobby Weatherford and Jeannette and Lloyd Burson; a special neice, Tara Manning; a cousin and “sister-by-heart,” Sue Tomlinson; a “mother-by-heart,” Bessie Younger; and a number of nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Walker County Unit, P.O. Box 281, Huntsville, Texas 77342.
Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home of Huntsville directed the arrangements.

Evelyn Haltom Elliott Wright
NASH – Services for Evelyn Haltom Elliott Wright, 94, of Texarkana, Texas, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at the Chapelwood Funeral Home Chapel in Nash with the Rev. James Brinkley officiating.
Burial followed in the Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Wright died Thursday, Sept. 18, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 26, 1914, in Nacogdoches. She was a homemaker and a member of the Red Lick First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 76 years, Homer Wright of Texarkana; a daughter and her spouse, Joyce and Quinton Stone of Spring; a son and his spouse, Kenneth and Janelle Wright of Texarkana; four sisters, Corrine Smith of Cleveland, Texas, Thelma Wright of Houston, Jimmie Farrell of Irving and Lois Barber of Houston; a brother, Sam Elliott of Padre Island; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Red Lick First Baptist Church, 3370 FR 2148, Texarkana, Texas 75503.
