Early voters turnout in local elections

COLDSPRING -- Early voting in the May 9 city and school board elections ended Tuesday, May 5, indicating average turnouts in most elections as of Monday, May 4. In the Shepherd Independent School Board of Trustees election, where there is one contested race, 39 early votes had been cast as of Monday. SISD board member Daryl Richardson is opposed by Derek Wilkie for Position 7. Position 6 incumbent Susan Bailes is unopposed on the ballot. Voters in the SISD will cast ballots Election Day Saturday, May 9, at three voting boxes: Box 2, located at the Shepherd Community Center, 10251 Hwy 150; Box 4, located on Early voters turnout in local elections Election Day is Saturday, May 9 FM 2666 and Box 13, located at Mercy Water Supply. In the City of Shepherd, eight candidates are running for three positions to be fi lled on the Shepherd City Council. Candidates include one incumbent, Olene Reaves, and Waid Lee Williams, Cynthia Jones Diese, Doug Milford, William J. Rudolph, Tony E. Beeson, Derlin Barnhill and Raj. C. Dalwadi. The three candidates with the most votes will win seats on the council. As of Friday, only 23 people had voted early in the Shepherd City election. Election Day voting for the City of Shepherd will be held at the Shepherd Community Center, located at 10251 Hwy. 150, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. A total of 188 early votes had been cast in the Coldspring- Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School Board of Trustees election as of Monday. Two incumbents face opponents in the school election, with three candidates seeking the unexpired term held by former board member Mark Allen. Incumbent Gale Woodruff Altman is opposed by Luke Sweeney for Position 1. Position 2 incumbent Dale Richards is opposed by Darien Moore and James W. Chesser, David Reed Jr., and Shannan Calvert are seeking Position 3 on the board. Election Day voting on Saturday, May 9, will be held in the regular voting boxes of San Jacinto County from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. According to Point Blank City Secretary Kelly Hood, 60 people had cast early ballots in city hall as of Monday, May 4, where Point Blank Mayor Lillian Bratton is opposed by Steve Sasser and Point Blank Councilman Carl Polk is opposed by Paul Singleton. Point Blank residents will cast Election Day ballots, Saturday, May 9, in the Pct. 4 County Annex where the COCISD trustee election will also be held. The City of Coldspring cancelled its election because no incumbent was opposed on the May 9 ballot. All voting boxes on Saturday, May 9, will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
