Changes seen in local elections

COLDSPRING – Change was voted in during Saturday’s local school board and city elections. In the City of Point Blank, a new mayor and city councilman were elected as long-time Mayor Lillian Bratton lost her bid for re-election to opponent Steve Sasser. In unoffi cial results, Sasser garnered 93 votes to win the mayoral seat from Bratton who received 31 votes. Point Blank councilman Carl Polk lost his bid for re-election to opponent Paul Singleton. Polk received 21 votes while Singleton got 104 votes to win the election. In the Coldspring-Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School Board election 18-year veteran Gale Woodruff Altman lost her bid for re-election to newcomer Luke Sweeney for Position 1 on the board of trustees. In unoffi cial results Altman received 366 votes while Sweeney got 416 votes to win the position. Dale Richards narrowly won his bid for re-election to Position 2 with 385 votes. His opponent, Darien Moore, got 379 votes. Shannan Calvert had an easy victory over her two opponents for the unexpired term of Position 3 on the COCISD Board. Calvert received 378 votes to win the position while David Reed Jr., garnered 200 votes and James W. Chesser got 210 votes. In the Shepherd Independent School Board election Daryl Richardson easily won his bid for re-election to Position 7 with 218 votes. His opponent, Derek Wilkie, received 78 votes. Running unopposed, incumbent Susan Bailes received 216 votes for Position 6 on the SISD Board. Cynthia Jones Diese, Derlin Barnhill and Waid Lee Williams will take at-large seats on the Shepherd City Council following Saturday’s elections. Winning the city election, Diese received 85 votes, Barnhill got 82 votes and Williams has 81 votes. Others seeking the three seats up for election on the council are Doug Milford with 12 votes, William J. Rudolph with 58 votes, Tony E. Beeson with 12 votes, incumbent Olene Reaves with 72 votes and Raj C. Dalwadi with 47 votes.
