Armed robbery suspects take infant on crime spree

POINT BLANK – Suspected of armed robbery in Walker County, three suspects headed into San Jacinto County on their crime spree carrying an infant with them. The San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Department was notifi ed by Walker County authorities on April 9, about 9 p.m. that the suspects were possibly traveling Hwy. 190 toward San Jacinto County. Deputies were in route when the dispatcher notifi ed all units that a robbery was in progress at the Shell Station in Point Blank. As deputies spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, the driver accelerated away at a high rate of speed, turning into the Forest Cove Subdivision on Hwy. 190, according to deputies The driver lost control of his vehicle, trying to avoid the lake and rolled over. No injuries were reported. Deputies took the driver, identifi ed as Carl Helmick, 25, of Huntsville into custody along with two females identifi ed as Heather Dixon, 21 of Paris, Texas and Samantha Starkey, 25, of Conroe. The infant in the vehicle was checked by EMS and found to have had no injuries. Child Protective Services were notifi ed about the infant, according to the sheriff’s department. All suspects have been charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest with vehicle and child endangerment. Total bond for Helmick is $97,000 and total bonds for Dixon and Starkey are $89,000 each.
