Grand jury indicts Shepherd councilman

SHEPHERD – Shepherd City Councilman Kevin Thoms, 45, was indicted by a San Jacinto County Grand Jury Friday on charges under the Copyright Act and on charges of forgery, according to San Jacinto County Criminal District Attorney Bill Burnett. Thoms, along with his father, Thomas Thoms, 69, were arrested by Shepherd Chief of Police Chris Simmons early in May of this year following an investigation into pirated DVD movies. While executing a search warrant Simmons said a large number of pirated movies, DVD’s and computer equipment was confi scated. Simmons said the pair was copying and selling the pirated movies out of their propane shop located on South Byrd in Shepherd. If convicted they potentially face fi nes or imprisonment.
