American Legion honors Iraq veteran on his return home

CAMILLA – An American Legion Harold G. Davis Post 629 member and veteran of Iraq returned home Saturday, Aug. 21 with an escort. Native Houstonian CW 4 Bobby Deiss, Task Force Double Eagle Aviation Safety Offi - cer of Joint Base Baghdad, Iraq was given a hero’s welcome with much applause, standing ovations, music, food and presentations. Post 629 American Legion Riders presented Deiss with a rider’s vest and an honorary membership to the riders. Deiss said, “I will always be grateful for this post and the support that was given to me and to my unit and the care packages that were sent each month by the post will never be forgotten.” Deiss then presented the legion with an American Legion Riders’ Flag that he carried with him on his missions during his deployment. He carried the Rider’s Flag while he was supervising subordinates unit safety. As he fl ew combat missions with these units, he went into the extreme west, east, north and south of Iraq. The fl ag will be permanently mounted at the legion in honor of the hero who was awarded the Bronze Star for Service Operation Iraqi Freedom.
