Master Gardner course scheduled

SHEPHERD -- Texas AgriLife Extension Service in San Jacinto County will be offering the fi rst ever Master Gardener course for residents in and around San Jacinto County. The course is a premiere educational series with the primary focus of horticulture and gardening aspects. Each topic will be delivered by an expert in that fi eld coming from private industry or research institutions. The topics to be covered will include plant propagation, plant growth and development, vegetables, soils, water, nutrients, native vegetation, composting, landscape horticulture, Earthkind landscaping, pesticide safety, entomology, plant pathology, lawn care, herbs, and 3 fi eld trips to demonstration and research gardens. The Master Gardener course is a certifi cation course by the state organization and will be open to only 20 individuals. The course will begin Oct. 6, at 1 pm. The Master Gardener course guidelines require that all enrolled in the course complete all topics and volunteer within the community/ county for a minimum of 50 hours. This is a great opportunity for Master Gardener participants to pull together for the beautifi cation of San Jacinto County or the area where you live. Upon completion of the course and community service, you will be certifi ed as a Master Gardener and hold a wealth of information in the area of gardening and horticulture in addition to being a valued community resource. The Master Gardener classes will be held on Wednesdays in the fall beginning on Oct. 6, and concluding with graduation on Dec. 6. There will be no class during Thanksgiving week. The registration for the entire course series is $125 which comes with the needed books, binders, and all registrations for the topic classes. Based on years of requesting that the Master Gardener course to be offered, the course will fill quickly. Registration for the course will be complete upon payment for the course. Registration form for the course can be picked up at the Extension office until registration for the course closes on Sept. 17, or the course is filled.
