County history celebrated
San Jacinto News- Times

COLDSPRING – The 141 year history of San Jacinto County will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 13, with an icecream freeze-off, barbecue and an auction. Hosted by the San Jacinto County Historical Commission and the American Legion Harold G. Davis Post 629 the all day event will be held at the American Legion Post in Camilla. An auction will be held at 2 p.m. and a drawing for a Christmas quilt will be held. Barbecue sandwiches will be sold and an ice-cream freeze-off held, following the reading of a proclamation and the history of San Jacinto County. San Jacinto County was formed on Aug. 13 in 1870 from parts of Polk, Walker, Liberty and Montgomery counties. Proceeds from the event benefi t the San Jacinto County Historical Commission and the Old Jail Museum.
