Chinese New Year celebrated at local international retreat

SHEPHERD – Chung Tai International Retreat Center kicks off the Chinese New Year with an open house and a special session of Buddhist Retreat on Saturday, Feb. 12. On the same day, the Retreat Center will also host a fi eld day for photo taking and painting. Photography and painting enthusiasts are welcome to attend, according to Tom Lee, spokesman for the Retreat Center. The International Retreat Center is located in Shepherd along Hwy. 59. “A piece of 550-acre land with stretches of grasslands, rolling hills, beautiful lakes, and delightful forest trails, its quiet and peaceful setting is most suitable for the whole family to visit,” Lee said. A veggie barbecue lunch will be served at noon with a tour of the center beginning at 2 p.m. “For anyone who likes to participate in retreat, photo taking or painting, please register with Chung Tai Zen Center of Houston,” Lee said. You may register by calling 281-568-1568 or by email: zen@cthouston.org. “On the same day we’ll also have a special meditation retreat to celebrate Chinese New Year (of Rabbit) from 10 a.m. until noon,” Lee said. “We’ll have many new exciting programs planned for the Retreat Center for the year to come.
