San Jacinto News- Times - January 2010
COLDSPRING – A contract postal carrier with the Coldspring Post Offi ce is no longer employed and an investigation continues after complaints of mail tampering were fi led. According to Special Agent for the Offi ce of Inspection General of the United States Postal Service Public Information Offi cer Kenny Smith, specifi cs of the investigation can not be released at this time; however, he said special agents with the Offi ce of Inspection General (OIG) have been in contact with area residents involving losses through the mail. “The case will be presented federally in the Southern District of Texas when completed,” Smith said. “Incidents of theft are very rare considering there are over 600,000 employees. The majority are honest, hard working people. This is a very isolated incident,” Smith said. “If you think you have been a victim of mail theft, contact the Consumer Affairs Department, Houston, at 713-226-3442,” Smith said. Smith urged that only those who think they may be victims of mail theft should call the number.
