Shepherd customers without gas Monday

SHEPHERD – About 224 Centerpoint Energy customers in Shepherd were without natural gas Monday, following several nights of below freezing temperatures. A spokesperson for Centerpoint said they were notifi ed of the problem and had crews on the scene by 8 a.m. Gas valves to homes and businesses had to be shut off while restoring the gas pressure before the gas valves could once again be turned back on, according to the spokesperson. Schools in the area affected continued with classes as usual although some businesses closed. Gas was restored around 2 p.m. Monday.
