Tourism seminar planned

COLDSPRING -- San Jacinto County Tourism Council will host a complimentary tourism seminar and open house on July 24, at noon in the Coldspring Community Center. Miles Phillips, a tourism specialist at Texas A&M, will be the featured speaker. A free lunch will be provided to all who attend. Phillips is a member of the Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Sciences Department at Texas A&M University. He holds a Masters Degree in Parks and Recreation Management from West Virginia University. In his current position he supports program development for the extension agents in all 254 counties in Texas. He is a member of the Texas State Tourism Agency Council, the Texas Travel Industry Association Nature Tourism Council and he is one of the 8 members of the National Extension Tourism Design Team.
He has conducted Ecotourism development work in Texas, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, West Virginia, and South Carolina. Most businesses in San Jacinto County are related to tourism in one way or another. Mr. Phillips will provide information regarding how tourism affects your business and ways a business owner or manager may benefi t from tourism. The San Jacinto County Tourism Council, which was established in September, 2007, is a non-profi t organization dedicated to establishing San Jacinto County as a tourism destination and works to encourage and promote tourism for the economic growth of San Jacinto County.
