Drive through injures one

SHEPHERD – A car driven by a Goodrich woman failed to stop Saturday, July 17 and plowed into a business on Hwy. 59, sending one customer to the hospital with serious injuries. According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) report, Rhonda Joy Boone, 50, of Goodrich was at a gasoline pump at a Valero Station on Hwy. 59 when she put her blue Lincoln in gear and accelerated forward but her brakes failed to work. Boone struck an empty vehicle parked in front of the store registered to Justin Hackworth of Katy, Texas, before driving through the wall of the store where it plowed into several electronic slot machines, pushing one of the machines into Vicki Hawthorne, 46, of Cleveland who was playing games on the machine. Hawthorne was taken by PHI Life Flight to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston with serious injuries, according to the DPS report. Other than damage to the three slot machines, the store sustained damage to two shelves containing auto and food items and numerous glass items. No charges were fi led.
