Oakhurst VFD fundraiser scheduled

OAKHURST -- Saturday July 14, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. the Oakhurst Volunteer Fire Department will host its first fundraiser/membership drive since reopening a little more than one year ago. A fish fry is planned with potato salad or cold slaw, baked beans, hush puppies and tea. The charge for a plate is $10 and a fish sandwich will be $5. A bake sale featuring cakes, pies, cookies and more will also be held. The meal is being catered by Ms. Peaches, voted best caterer in San Jacinto County. Last year, with a small crew of volunteers, the fire department was able to keep several Oakhurst homes from catching fire. They also helped protect our forests from burning out of control in a number of areas in our county. Come show your appreciation and your support. OVFD needs members, firefighters and would like to form an auxiliary. Also, be sure to welcome new chief Julius Bailey who has been an OVFD member and chief in the past and is retired from the U.S. Forestry Service.
