SISD board approves pay increases, stipends

SHEPHERD – Shepherd Independent School District Board of Trustees heard a construction update and approved employee pay increases and stipends last week during a regular meeting. Board members were told that asbestos abatement has started on the Shepherd Middle School campus and demolition of the 100-year-old building began the week before. The ceilings and fl oors are being replaced and restrooms renovated. Work continues on the intermediate and high school campuses keeping in line with completion dates. During action items, board members approved a paper supplier for the district; approved the purchase of one 77-passenger bus; approved facility use and waived fees for the facility for the San Jacinto County 4-H Gold Star Banquet; approved a motion to purchase materials for the Saxon Phonics program for the primary campus; approved a motion to accept a personal property donation of a kiln from Shepherd Family Worship Center; passed a motion to approve Update 85; and passed a motion to allow children of employees to attend pre-kindergarten. Following executive session, which lasted for about one hour, board members approved a motion to accept employee recommendations and resignations; approved pay step increases for 2009-2010 and approved employee pay scales, pay increases and stipends. During open forum, Sandra Harrison was presented a retirement plaque as Shepherd Independent School Superintendent Jody Cronin and Shepherd School Board President Susan Bailes commended and thanked her for 35 years of service to the district.
