Shepherd EDC to host job fair
SHEPHERD – Shepherd Economic Development Corporation is hosting a job fair for San Jacinto and surrounding counties Tuesday, June 26, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event will be held at the Shepherd Community Center where companies from around the area are going to be represented with job opportunities in many different fields, according to Shepherd Economic Development Corporation Public Relations Officer Earl Brown. Brown said nine or 10 companies have committed to the job fair with more pending. “I received six commitments Monday and looking for more during the week,” Brown said. Those who have already committed include Texas Work Force Solutions, Texas Home Health, Cleveland; Martin Auto, Cleveland; Performance Truck, Cleveland; Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Huntsville; Woodland Park Nursing Home, Shepherd; Office of Inspector General and Entergy. “I am pretty sure both school districts in the county will be there,” Brown said. “We are looking forward to a lot of companies to come on board.” Brown said the idea of a job fair came about during a board meeting of the Shepherd Economic Development Corporation. “With San Jacinto County’s unemployment about 10.5 percent, the need is here,” Brown said. The job fair is free to everyone, according to Brown. “All you need to bring is your resume and valid identification and be ready to interview,” Brown said. Companies interested in participating in the job fair should contact Brown at 936- 689-3780 or send an email to ebrown@netzero.com before June 25 to ensure a space reserved at the community center for June 26.
