Candidates file for city, school board positions

COLDSPRING – Contested races in both of San Jacinto County’s school districts will be held Saturday, May 9 to fill expiring positions. In the Shepherd Independent School District incumbent Daryl Richardson is opposed by Derek Wilkie for Position 7. Incumbent Susan Bailes, Position 6, does not have an opponent. In the Coldspring-Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School District, incumbent Gale Woodruff Altman is opposed by Luke Sweeney for Position 1. Position 2 incumbent Dale Richards is opposed by Darien Moore. Position 3, which is the unexpired term formerly held by Mark Allen, drew three opponents – James W. Chesser, David Reed and Shannan Calvert. Early voting begins April 27 and continues through May 5. City elections In the City of Shepherd eight candidates have fi led for two positions to be fi lled on the Shepherd City Council. Waid Lee Williams, Cynthia Jones Diese, Doug Milford, William J. Rudolph, incumbent Olene Reaves, Tonya E. Beeson, Derlin Barnhill and Raj C. Dalwadi are seeking positions on the council. The two candidates with the most votes will be sworn in. In the City of Point Blank Mayor Lillian Bratton is opposed by Steve Sasser and Councilman Carl Polk is opposed by Paul Singleton. Campaign announcements The San Jacinto News-Times will publish political announcements from those who have fi led as candidat4s in the May 9 school board elections. Announcements must be received no later than Friday, April 3. Announcements may be prepared by the candidate in advance and submitted to the newspaper or a candidate may contact the News-Times for an interview. These one-time political announcements are considered news stories. There is no charge and the announcements are subject to editing. For editorial purposes, we will picture only the candidate, although pictures that include the candidate’s family may be used in paid poli8tical advertisements. Those who already have a suitable photograph may submit it for publication with their announcement. For those who do not have a photo, the News-Times will be available to take photos of candidates for use in announcements and advertisements that are to run in any Polk County Publishing Company publication.
